Chig Okonwko (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday.

Okonkwo left Week 1 in the third quarter with the hamstring issue and did not return. A DNP today puts him on the wrong side of questionable for Week 2. John Bates and Ben Sinnott each ran 10 routes on Sunday. They would likely split Okonkwo’s role if he can’t suit up, meaning their isn’t much fantasy value to be had here.
Vikings can be 'pass-heavy' with Murray vs. Bucs
Patrick Daugherty and Denny Carter lay out their expectations for Kyler Murray's return to the Vikings offense and what his fantasy outlook is against the Buccaneers' struggling defense.

Okonkwo did not log a practice this week after suffering a hamstring injury in the second half of last week’s game against the Eagles. His absence will leave the Commanders noticeably thin at tight end as far as pass-catchers are concerned, as the next man up on the depth chart is blocking TE John Bates, followed by third-year TE Ben Sinnott, who could see an uptick in the passing game after running 10 routes in Week 1. Fantasy managers should avoid this tight end room altogether despite a plus matchup against the Cowboys. In addition to Okonkwo, the Commanders have also ruled out LB Frankie Luvu (groin).
  • WAS Tight End #85
Okonkwo missed most of the second half of Week 1 and has not been spotted at practice since. There are probably better TE2 bets to lay for Week 2 even if he does suit up in some form on Friday.
  • WAS Tight End #85
Okonkwo’s name will be one to look for on Wednesday when the Commanders release their first injury report. The 27-year-old tight end exited in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Eagles and did not return to the field. If he’s unable to play in Week 2 against the Cowboys, the Commanders would be looking at using John Bates and unproven third-year tight end Ben Sinnott as their top two options. Neither should be trusted for fantasy purposes if Okonkwo is out.
  • WAS Tight End #85
Okonkwo exited late in the third quarter with a hamstring injury and did not play in the fourth quarter. Okonkwo’s biggest play came on a 15-yard gain in the third quarter, but he was otherwise held in check by an Eagles defense that gave the Commanders fits all afternoon. His injury status will be one to monitor heading into next week’s game against the Cowboys, where he’ll be a boom-or-bust TE2 if active.
  • WAS Tight End #85
Okonkwo exited in the third quarter, and at the start of the fourth quarter, it was revealed that the Commanders’ TE1 would be questionable to return. Okonkwo has caught two passes for 16 yards so far, as the Commanders have struggled to generate much through the air.
  • WAS Tight End #85
If the Commanders actually decide to make a move on Stefon Diggs, perhaps this will change, but right now Okonkwo stands to have an excellent shot at being fantasy-viable. He’s essentially free in most standard leagues, going off after the top 110 picks by ADP on almost all sites.
  • WAS Tight End #87
Bates strained his hamstring in practice on Thursday. The veteran blocking tight end’s absence likely won’t change much as long as it doesn’t linger into the season. Ben Sinnott will likely get more opportunities in training camp.
  • WAS Tight End
Zach Ertz was second on the team with 72 targets last year, but after that you have to slide all the way down to John Bates at 16 to find another tight end. Chig Okonkwo is certainly in the TE2 tier at the moment, but this would appear to give him a path to low-end TE1 upside. Keim does say it’s not only Okonkwo who will have a bigger role, and the role may shrink a bit if and when the Commanders finally bring in Brandon Aiyuk or another veteran WR2. Still, Okonkwo’s range of outcomes is much better than it was last year in Tennessee.
  • WAS Tight End #82
Keim went as far as to say that a league source was confused when the Commanders drafted Sinnott at No. 53 overall a year ago because he didn’t think the tight end was a fit for Kingsbury’s system. That source was spot on. Sinnott managed just 16 catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns through two seasons. Kingbury has since been fired and replaced by Blough, who previously held the title of assistant quarterbacks coach. Keim called out a deep shot and an intermediate throw over the middle to Sinnott as plays that are indicative of how Blough will use his tight ends in the regular season. Though free agent addition Chig Okonkwo is penciled in as the starter, Sinnott should get more run in his third season. Dynasty managers can leave the light on for him, even if he isn’t a consideration in redraft leagues.

Okonkwo, who in March signed a three-year deal worth up to $30 million, has been an offensive highlight for Washington under first-year OC David Blough. “He has rare speed and versatility, and his knack for collecting yards after the catch only adds to his appeal,” Jhabvala said, adding that the Commanders could “use a heavy dose of multiple tight end sets” under Blough this season. While last year in Tennessee was a down season for Okonkwo — he ranked 30th among tight ends in yards per route run — he has proven to be efficient in the past. Over four seasons with the Titans he was targeted on 19 percent of his pass routes. Okonkwo could be a 12-team fantasy option in 2026 if Jayden Daniels stays healthy.

Packers OL Anthony Belton (elbow) was limited in Tuesday’s practice.

Belton is Green Bay’s new starting right tackle, in theory, with Zach Bako-Bewele done for the season. Not ideal for him to be popping up on the injury report on Tuesday ahead of a TNF clash with the Falcons. We’ll see where this goes; midweek additions are always tricky to figure out the day of, but the Packers offensive line continues to be beset with injuries.

Chargers TE Charlie Kolar (forearm) is undergoing surgery and plans to return in four weeks.

The Chargers will welcome Kolar back in a month barring complications. He was already placed on IR yesterday, but this timetable update shows that he should be ready to return in late October.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Rico Dowdle (toe) is considered to be day-to-day.

Dowdle appears to have a good chance of playing in Week 3. He played more snaps than Jaylen Warren in Week 1 and obviously did not while dealing with this injury in Week 2. Ultimately the Steelers offense has been bad enough that neither player profiles as better than a FLEX in Week 3.

Jets released QB Bailey Zappe from their practice squad.

The Jets chose Will Levis over Zappe in what we’re calling “a career-ending blurb.” The 27-year-old Zappe will attempt to pick up the pieces elsewhere.

Jets placed DL David Onyemata on injured reserve.

The 33-year-old veteran will miss at least the next four games. He came over from the Falcons this offseason and had played 48 snaps in New York’s first two games.

Lions signed S Bishop Fitzgerald off the Steelers’ practice squad.

He’ll replace Avonte Maddox, who heads to injured reserve. Fitzgerald, a 23-year-old UDFA, joins a safety room with Chuck Clark and Thomas Harper that is just trying to hold on until Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch are healthy.

Jets placed WR Arian Smith (knee) on injured reserve.

He’ll miss at least four weeks. Smith had only really been playing special teams. It leaves the Jets with only three wideouts on their 53-man roster following Omar Cooper’s IR placement in Week 1. Tyler Johnson and Sterling Shepard are in line to be elevated off the practice squad for depth in Week 3.

Vikings signed RB Jaret Patterson to their practice squad.

It was foreshadowed a bit that the Vikings would make some sort of transaction in this area after Aaron Jones took a huge workload in Week 2. We’re not sure if Patterson will instantly be up from the practice squad in Week 3, but he’s got enough NFL experience to be able to help if called upon.

The Arizona Republic’s Theo Mackie reports Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur “met [the] idea” of manufacturing touches for Marvin Harrison “with skepticism.”

“I know it’s like, ‘Well, just get some easy completions to get going,’” LaFleur told Mackie. “And that’s fine. You also have Trey McBride, who’s one of the best underneath guys in the world. And there’s only about 60, 65 plays a game. And you’ve gotta run the ball. And you’ve got Kendrick, who works underneath pretty well too. So everyone’s kind of got their role.” In other words; don’t look for LaFleur to bail your Harrison fantasy pick out. If Harrison does get cooking this year it’ll be in the normal flow of their offense. So far that has yielded just four targets in two games.

Brian Robinson (ankle) practiced in full on Tuesday.

Robinson was limited on Monday for the estimated practice session. It seems like he’ll be able to go behind Bijan Robinson in Week 3’s TNF showdown with the Packers.
