49ers declared QB Kurtis Rourke, WR Jordan Watkins, CB Ephesians Prysock, LB Tatum Bethuneand OL Enrique Cruz Jr. inactive for Week 2 against the Dolphins.

It was reported earlier in the day that Black was expected to play, and now we get confirmation that he will. The rookie had 14 carries in his NFL debut in Week 1, and it remains to be seen if that will be the 49ers’ plan going forward or if that had something to do with Christian McCaffrey cramping or the entire team traveling abroad to Australia for the first game.

Black’s day did not start great as he was stuffed on three straight plays inside the three-yard line on the first drive. Then he watched as Christian McCaffrey scored a touchdown on fourth down. However, McCaffrey also picked up a thigh injury on that drive and missed the remainder of the first half, which allowed Black the opportunity to rip off some nice chunk runs and a long touchdown. McCaffrey did return in the second half, and Black also lost a fumble in the second quarter, so there were some moments of inconsistency. That being said, Black looks like one of the best bench stash running backs in fantasy football.

McCaffrey was used heavily on the first drive with the 49ers down so many offensive players, and he came out of that drive with a touchdown but also a thigh injury. The trainers worked on him on the sideline for two drives before finally bringing him into the medical tent. The 49ers do have a bye next week, so they could try to get him back into the game, but they are also up 14-3 at this point, so the Falcons will likely need to get the game closer. Kaelon Black will continue to see a workhorse role while CMC is sidelined.
  • SF Running Back #26
Black was limited on Wednesday, but upgraded to full participation on Thursday and Friday. There are no concerns about his ability to handle backup duties against the Seahawks this week. That said, he has just 10 carries over the last two weeks and cannot be started in 12-team FLEX spots.
  • SF Running Back #26
This should be a non-issue for Black by the time Sunday comes around. Black cut into Christian McCaffrey’s role again last week with six carries, though he only turned that into 13 yards. He doesn’t have much standalone fantasy value but remains one of the better contingency options headed into Week 5.
  • SF Running Back #26
After seeing 14 carries in Week 1 against the Rams, Black now has 17 rushing attempts over his past three games as the Niners’ No. 2 back behind Christian McCaffrey. Black should be rostered in most leagues as one of the best contingency options in the game. As long as CMC is healthy, Black should remain on benches.
  • SF Running Back #26
Black has seen his role decrease with Christian McCaffrey returning to bell cow usage. The rookie saw four carries and one target, totaling eight offensive snaps. He saw a red zone touch but otherwise did not get close to scoring opportunities. Black is one of the most valuable handcuffs in fantasy football moving forward.
  • SF Running Back #26
After splitting work fairly evenly with Christian McCaffrey in Week 1, Black took a clearer backup role here. He had some snaps on the first drive of the game, but then Black mixed in sporadically until the game was decided early in the fourth quarter. At the end of the day, the rookie played on 16 of the team’s 45 snaps and is unlikely to have any standalone value; yet, he remains one of the better bench stashes in fantasy football.

Black picked up 14 carries while Christian McCaffrey dealt with cramps in Week 1. Now it’s Black who is banged up, meaning we might get more CMC versus Miami this week. Black was added to the injury report midweek and logged two limited practices before receiving the questionable designation. He is in the RB4 range for Week 2, making him a middling FLEX play.
  • SF Running Back #26
Black appeared on the 49ers’ injury report yesterday as a limited participant. He was seen practicing today during the portion of practice open to the media, but we do not know if he managed to practice in full. If so, that would be encouraging. The 49ers face the Dolphins’ unimposing defense this weekend. If Black is active, he can be started in FLEX spots, though ideally we get an update on his health beforehand.

Black gets tagged with the dreaded mid-week limited listing. Dang. The rookie running back was a helpful contributor in Week 1, elevating him to FLEX-starter status for the 49ers’ matchup against the Dolphins’ fantasy-friendly defense in Week 2. He is now in the questionable camp, though. Hopefully, he practices fully on Friday.

Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) will not play in Week 8 against the Buccaneers.

Robinson will miss a second straight game with his hamstring injury, which positions Khalil Herbert to again serve as the backup to Bijan Robinson. Herbert rushed two times for nine yards in last week’s win over the 49ers while adding one reception for 19 additional yards. He will not be on the streaming radar this week.

Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said A.J. Brown (knee) is questionable for New England’s Week 8 game against the Dolphins.

This feels like a very optimistic questionable after Brown missed the last two practices of the week with a new knee tweak. Brown-reliant managers should be making contingency plans ready for Sunday. “We’ll see when he comes in tomorrow, and we’ll make a decision,” Vrabel said.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Jonathan Taylor will play in Week 8 against the Jaguars.

Steichen said Taylor will see a full workload despite being the subject of trade rumors for a Colts team that will clearly be sellers at the deadline. Taylor is healthy and not on the injury report, so this is strictly an update to inform fantasy managers they can start him with confidence this week. Taylor remains a high-end RB1 as long as his normal workload remains intact.

Colts coach Shane Steichen said Tyler Warren (groin) is “good to go” for Indianapolis’ Week 8 game against the Jaguars.

Warren was limited in practice on Thursday and Wednesday and will return to a rough receiver corps against a Jaguars defense coming off bye. Warren remains a startable TE1, but it’s hard to forge much of a ceiling case for him at this point.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Josh Downs will play in Week 8 against the Jaguars despite his trade request.

Steichen confirmed that Downs did indeed request a trade, but that won’t stop him from being on the field this week against the Jaguars. The Colts appear to be in full sell mode after trading away OG Quenton Nelson and DT DeForest Buckner earlier this week. Downs has been on the practice field this week and profiles as a fringe WR3/WR4 after a string of tough outings.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said Antoine Winfield Jr. will return in Week 8 against the Falcons.

Winfield has missed the last three games due to fractured ribs he suffered in Week 4. Winfield has earned a 76.8 defensive grade per PFF this season while racking up 24 tackles. The Panthers’ secondary held up fairly well during his three-game absence, allowing only 235.0 passing yards per game, but his return will be a welcomed one for Bowles and his defense.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said Emeka Egbuka (foot) will not play in Week 8 against the Falcons.

Bowles said Egbuka did clear concussion protocol, but the foot injury he has been dealing with for the last two weeks will officially sideline him for this week’s game against the Falcons. Hopefully this isn’t any kind of a major setback for Egbuka, who shed his non-contact jersey in Thursday’s practice and was limited in the first two practices to start the week. Ted Hurst will again operate as the Buccaneers’ primary outside target but shouldn’t be trusted as anything more than a risky WR4.

Saquon Barkley (hamstring/back) was spotted at Friday’s practice.

After being a DNP in each of the Eagles’ first two practices of the week, it’s far too early to be confident that Barkley will suit up on Sunday night against the Commanders. That said, his return to the field is still an encouraging sign for the Eagles, whose backfield is suddenly among the most banged up in the league. We will check back in when the Eagles announce Barkley’s Week 8 status, but it wouldn’t be surprising if this ends up being a game-time decision, which could prove frustrating for fantasy managers. We should know more on his availability in the next few hours.

A.J. Brown (knee) was not spotted at Friday’s practice.

Brown has now missed back-to-back practices and is at serious risk of missing Week 8’s game against the Dolphins. Brown’s knee injury was reported as a “flare-up” from a previous knee injury, which is never a good sign for a player. Brown has been dealing with injuries like this for a few years but has always found a way to play through them. While it’s possible he ends up doing so again this week, fantasy managers should begin considering other options in the event he is held out.

Carnell Tate (shoulder) was not spotted at Friday’s practice.

Tate was a DNP all week and is at risk of missing Week 8’s game against the Bengals. The team will announce his official status shortly, but if he is unable to go, Wan’Dale Robinson and Elic Ayomanor would be the early favorites to see an uptick in targets against a Bengals secondary that ranks 18th in points allowed to opposing receivers this season.
