Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald said Sam Darnold (glute) is on track to practice this week.

FOX Sports’ Megan Olivi reported on Sunday that the Seahawks “are aiming” to have Darnold play in Week 3 against the Commanders. It goes without saying that Darnold will need to get a few days of practice in if he hopes to suit up, making this a big week for the Seahawks’ QB1 as he looks to get back on the field. Darnold’s injury wasn’t as severe as the team initially feared when he exited in Week 1 against the Patriots, but with a game against the 0-2 Commanders on the horizon, it’s possible the team doesn’t look to rush him back to the field if he’s not close to 100 percent. His practice status will be worth monitoring throughout the week, but if he’s held out, Drew Lock will make at least one more start in what should be a plus matchup for fantasy managers.
Why is Quinn now wearing his hat forward?
Chris Simms and Mike Florio discuss Dan Quinn wearing his hat forward instead of wearing it backward, questioning if Josh Harris could have said something to the Washington Commanders head coach.

The Seahawks’ head coach stood by his quarterback today, saying Darnold is “definitely part of the solution” to the offense’s recent struggles. Darnold returned somewhat quickly from a glute tendon strain a couple of weeks ago. One wonders if he is still rounding back into form following the early-season ailment. Backup Drew Lock played well in his stead, but the Seahawks believe their Super Bowl-winning quarterback should keep his job. That makes sense to us. He’s a QB2 next week against the Chiefs.

The Seahawks struggled to move the football throughout against the tenacious situational play calling from Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, scoring only three points until just over five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. A late-game surge saw them punch on in and a successful two-point conversion drew the team within three points. They would stop the Broncos on the subsequent possession but an interception in Denver territory put the game in jeopardy. The defense would do their job and force a three-and-out that took only 15 seconds off the clock, giving the ball back to Darnold to lead a two-minute drill to send the game to overtime through a chip shot field goal. Darnold would throw his second interception in overtime, watching from the sideline as the Broncos walked it off with a 53-yard Will Lutz field goal. The loss sends the Seahawks to 3-3, matching the total number of losses from a season ago through only six weeks of the 2026 season. The Seahawks have work to do to make up ground in the NFC West, now 2.5 games behind the undefeated 49ers through the first third of the regular season. Darnold and the Seahawks now have a long week to prepare for the now-undefeated Chiefs at home in Week 7, where Darnold will be a fringe QB2 in fantasy circles.

It was a rough outing for Darnold, who was picked off on his first pass attempt of the day and absorbed a season-high five sacks. His lone touchdown pass came on a 16-yard pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Darnold completed a short two-yard pass to JSN, who turned it upfield for the score to give the Seahawks the 23-21 lead with just over five minutes left in the third quarter. On the Seahawks’ final drive of the game, Darnold found JSN for a 35-yard completion, but three straight incompletions, including an uncharacteristic drop by JSN, put the Seahawks in a fourth-and-10 situation that they were unable to convert after Cooper Kupp came up a yard short on his second reception of the night. Darnold has now thrown seven touchdowns and six interceptions in his last three games since returning from injury, and now faces a short week to get ready for the Broncos on Thursday night. He profiles as a mid-to-low-end QB2 in what could be a tough road matchup.

Darnold’s first pass of the game was intercepted on a throw to the flat that should have gone basically anywhere else. He connected on a screen pass with Emanuel Wilson for his first score, and found Tory Horton on a short slant for his second. The 29-year-old wasn’t close to his best, but could enough against the less-than-spectacular Chargers’ defense. He’ll have a marquee matchup in Week 5 against the 49ers.

It was his first action since leaving in the first series of Week 1 against the Patriots with his hip/glute injury. Darnold’s first interception was a doink off a defensive lineman that landed in the hands of Sonny Styles. The second was an egregious offering that resulted in a pick six. Outside of that, the 29-year-old played relatively well, with two touchdown throws to Jaxon Smith-Njigba and another pair to Cooper Kupp and Eric Saubert. He’ll look to limit the turnovers and find JSN more often in Week 4 against the Chargers at home.

Darnold upgraded to full participation yesterday, so today’s news tracks. In an interview on the Rich Eisen Show earlier today, Seahawks WR Smith-Njigba basically let slip that Darnold would be back, but Eisen let him out of the situation with only a soft follow-up. Darnold can be started as a borderline QB1/2 against a fantasy-friendly Commanders defense in Week 3.

Darnold said today that he is “striving” to play in Week 3 against the Commanders. It sounds like his striding is going well, too. The Seahawks’ starting quarterback is now seemingly on track to play on Sunday. Darnold’s strained glute tendon has healed faster than expected. If active, he can be treated as a high-end QB2.

Darnold was officially listed as a limited practice participant on Wednesday, returning to practice for the first time since his opening day injury. He split first-team reps with Drew Lock and did some throwing off to the side. The Seahawks will make a decision Friday on Darnold’s game status for Week 3 but the 29-year-old has an outside chance of returning against the Commanders.

This means Darnold will likely be listed as a limited participant today. The plan is to ramp him up as the week goes on, and Macdonald said the team would like to have a decision by Friday on whether Darnold will face the Commanders this week. The Seahawks’ quarterback has been sidelined since straining a glute tendon in Week 1. He will probably need to be treated as a QB2 with QB1 upside in his first game back, but his practice participation will clarify his readiness.

To be clear, Rapoport’s tone was controlled and cautionary here. Darnold can only be considered questionable, at best. The Seahawks’ quarterback “is healing faster than anyone had imagined,” but Rapoport adds that the team wants to be “cautious” with him. Backup QB Drew Lock should probably be viewed as the presumptive Week 3 starter at this time, but it sounds like Darnold can reasonably be expected to play in Week 4 at the latest.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Alec Pierce (heel) won’t practice this week.

Pierce, dealing with a heel injury since mid-September, will continue rehabbing and remain on injured reserve ahead of the Colts’ Week 7 game against the Vikings. Since Week 3, Keenan Allen leads the Colts with a 24 percent target share, while Josh Downs 17 percent of the team’s targets and 26 percent of the team’s air yards. Neither wideout is a great option in Week 7 against a marauding Minnesota defense.

Ravens signed Jake Moody to the team’s practice squad.

Moody could serve as competition for Tyler Loop after Loop’s early-season struggles. Loop has made ten of his 13 field goals attempts and all 16 of his extra points through Week 6. Moody — a career 78 percent kicker — competed with Loop for starting duties ahead of the regular season. Whoever ends up kicking for Baltimore will be fantasy relevant.

ESPN’s John Keim reports Terry McLaurin’s knee injury is considered “significant.”

Washington head coach Dan Quinn said after the team’s Monday night loss to the 49ers that there was “fear” McLaurin could be lost for the long-term after going down with a non-contact injury and was carted to the locker room. McLaurin has functioned as the team’s lone downfield threat for much of the season, and could be replaced with Treylon Burks, who on Monday night caught four balls for 66 yards before sustaining a late-game injury. Antonio Williams and Dyami Brown could also see an increase in routes and targets if McLaurin is sidelined for a while. Look for Chig Okonkwo to see an uptick in targets too. Okonkwo had seven grabs for 69 yards against the Niners.

Sports Illustrated’s John Shipley believes it could make long-term sense for the Commanders to acquire Brian Thomas, Jr.

Shipley mentions the Commanders and Rams as wideout-desperate teams who might be interested in trading for Thomas before the NFL’s trade deadline. The Jaguars have apparently soured on the one-time burgeoning star in recent weeks; against the Texans in Week 6, Thomas ran a pass route on just 28 percent of the Jags’ drop backs and saw two targets. The Commanders, meanwhile, lost Terry McLaurin to a potentially long-term knee injury on Monday night. Thomas, per Shipley, “is not a trade that would make a ton of sense for a Commanders team that might be losing a ton of games and needs their picks to rebuild ... but it would make sense for a general manager who needs to keep his job to give his quarterback a familiar and talented target. Daniels was Thomas’ quarterback during their final seasons at LSU, and the connection between the two could go a long-way toward solving some of Washington’s long-term issues at the wide receiver position.” BTJ’s fantasy prospects would get a big boost if he were to land in Washington in the coming weeks.

Jordan Watkins caught his only target for 22 yards in the 49ers’ Week 6 win over the Commanders.

Watkins drew the start in place of the injured Deebo Samuel but was unable to take advantage of the opportunity, with 23 of Brock Purdy’s 29 targets going to the team’s top three options in Christian McCaffrey, Mike Evans, and George Kittle. Evans departed at the end of the second quarter with an aggravation of his Achilles injury, something that appears likely to cost the veteran a Week 7 game against the Falcons. That could leave Watkins in line for a second consecutive start, although the upside remains modest. Fantasy managers are likely best leaving both Watkins and veteran Brandin Cooks on the waiver wire, the latter of whom caught 1-of-2 targets for 13 yards against the Commanders.

George Kittle caught 5-of-8 targets for 69 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers’ Week 6 win over the Commanders.

Kittle got the scoring started with an 11-yard touchdown on a dime from Brock Purdy to the corner of the end zone, contributing to the offense steadily through a dominant first half before pushing his yardage totals with a 35-yard reception to start the third quarter. It was a tale of two halves for the San Francisco offense, which managed a staggering 303 yards of total offense in the first half and only 72 yards of total offense after the break, likely heavily influenced by the departure of Mike Evans at the end of the second quarter. Evans is expected to miss the team’s Week 7 contest against the Falcons, where Kittle could step into additional volume in his already-solid TE1 profile.

Christian McCaffrey rushed 16 times for 64 yards and two touchdowns in the 49ers’ Week 6 win over the Commanders, adding 53 yards on nine receptions.

McCaffrey set a season high with 25 touches and 26 opportunities in a game played without Deebo Samuel and in which Mike Evans departed just before the half with an aggravation of his Achilles injury. The veteran workhorse back again proved how high his ceiling can be with such a robust role through the air. A second-quarter fumble was his first lost fumble since 2024, a stretch spanning over 500 touches since he last lost a fumble. McCaffrey remains an elite RB1 despite a difficult matchup on the ground against the Falcons in Week 7.

Brock Purdy completed 21-of-29 passes for 264 yards and one touchdown in the 49ers’ 23-17, Week 6 win over the Commanders, adding 28 yards on five carries.

Purdy and the 49ers absolutely dominated the first two quarters, gaining 303 yards of total offense on 41 plays before the break. The situation would alter course in a hurry after Purdy lost his top option through the air in the final minute of the second quarter as Mike Evans departed with an aggravation of the Achilles injury that had him listed as questionable entering the game. The team would go on to gain only 72 additional yards after the intermission, allowing the Commanders the ability to claw their way back into the game in the fourth quarter. Even so, Purdy now holds the NFL record for highest career passer rating after qualifying for the statistic with his 1,500th pass attempt in the win, which pushes the 49ers to a perfect 6-0 record ahead of a Week 7 meeting with the Falcons before their bye the following week. Purdy remains a surefire QB1 against the pass-funnel Falcons.

Stefon Diggs caught 6-of-7 targets for 44 yards and a touchdown in the Commanders’ Week 6 loss to the 49ers.

While the end line looks good in the box score, the fact that Diggs continued to operate in a situational role following the departure of Terry McLaurin in the first quarter was somewhat concerning for the veteran receiver’s upside potential in McLaurin’s absence, although the fact that he came into the game listed as questionable with a hamstring injury could have influenced his snap rate. Either way, Diggs continues to produce when on the field, returning significant value for fantasy managers that invested a middle-round pick for his services this summer. Diggs will be an upside WR3 when the Commanders take on the division rival Eagles in Week 8 following their bye.

Antonio Williams caught 3-of-4 targets for 50 yards in the Commanders’ Week 6 loss to the 49ers.

While the yardage total looks solid on paper, the fact that Williams had only four targets in a game in which veteran wide receiver Terry McLaurin departed in the first quarter and quarterback Jayden Daniels attempted 40 passes is concerning. Williams continues to flash big play upside through a multitude of injuries to teammates but has yet to fully take advantage of the increase in opportunity, something fantasy managers will hope corrects when the Commanders come out of their bye to face the Eagles in Week 8.
