Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said he is open to leaning more into the passing game.

“The thing for me about offensive football is you have to make sure you move the ball and try to score as many points as possible,” Ryans is quoted as saying by the Houston Chronicle. “How that looks to me, it really doesn’t matter. You can think or want to be a certain thing. But if you’re shown that that’s not the case and it’s not getting done, then you have to adjust. That’s where we are.” The Texans already abandoned the run against the Bengals in Week 2, throwing the ball 55 times. Perhaps Nico Collins’ return this week will raise all ships, but if it was as simple as the Texans needing to throw more, they probably would have scored more than six points against the Bengals. C.J. Stroud has a streamable matchup against the Cowboys this week if it all comes together.

It was turnover-free football despite three sacks. Simply put: The Texans just don’t look like an NFL offense right now. Two of Stroud’s three deep balls in this game could have been intended for any of four different receivers, one of them hit off Jaylin Noel’s hands. Nobody has taken the reins. Texans OC Nick Caley deserves to be on the hot seat. Stroud passes the eye test when you watch these games, but the design of this offense — especially the run offense — is brutal. Stroud is near the bottom of the superflex QB2 ranks against the Cowboys next week, though the potential return of Nico Collins merits some consideration that better things could happen.
  • HOU Quarterback #7
Stroud looked pretty good in this game, but he had no one to throw to, the Texans had no running game (Stroud lead the team in rushing with 29 yards), and they scored six points. Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln... Xavier Hutchinson failed to reel in several passes that hit him in the hands, including a would-be touchdown in the waning moments. It’s clear that without Nico Collins there’s just not enough talent on the field here to support a dead running game, and that’s what happened today. The Texans will look to rebound against the Colts in Week 3, a game where Stroud is probably on the QB2 radar for in superflex leagues.
  • HOU Quarterback #7
The buried news from the traditional stat line is that Stroud fumbled twice and the Texans recovered neither of them, including a back-breaker inside the Buffalo 20 on Houston’s final drive. The hard truth is that this offensive line is still not good. But, overall, it’s hard to fault the Texans offense for this one — if the 2025 Texans defense showed up, they win the game. Stroud looked competent-if-not-stellar in leading a touchdown drive in the two-minute drill of the first quarter. This is a good result for his superflex QB2 prospects — the Texans defense being as bad as they were in this one would also be welcomed news for fantasy managers. Stroud will get an (on-paper) easier roll against the Bengals in Week 2.
  • HOU Quarterback #7
The two sides worked diligently to get a deal done before the start of the regular season but will now pause discussions until after the year. Stroud was reportedly offered a substantial deal earlier in the offseason but turned it down, now forced to “bet on himself” as he plays out the final year of his rookie deal, minus the fifth-year option. Stroud has been unable to rekindle his rookie year magic while playing under two different offensive coordinators, something he’s looking to remedy in his second season under Nick Caley.
  • HOU Quarterback #7
Houston GM Nick Caserio recently said the team would not negotiate a new deal with Stroud once the regular season begins, putting a hard and fast deadline on Stroud’s ability to secure a longer-term contract with the team that drafted him. His immense and nationally-televised struggles down the stretch last season — including his playoff meltdown against the Patriots — could factor into the team’s decision to go all in on him as a long-term franchise quarterback. Fowler said Stroud “can let an exploding quarterback market do the work for him if he waits an additional six to eight months” and explore free agency in 2027. Stroud over the past three seasons ranks 22nd out of 40 qualifying QBs in adjusted EPA per drop back, alongside Bo Nix and Trevor Lawrence. He ranks 24th in drop back success rate, just behind Mac Jones.
  • HOU Quarterback #7
There’s really no reason for Stroud to want to negotiate off last year’s end-of-season performance, so we’re not stunned that there’s been no extension. It does sound like the Texans are at least laying the groundwork for next offseason. The general NFL expectation has been that Stroud will go into the year without an extension. The Houston Chronicle’s Jonathan Alexander reported that league sources believe the Texans and Stroud’s camp “are not far off on what they think Stroud’s contract terms should look like and how much he should be paid per year.”
  • HOU Quarterback #7
Stroud is currently eligible for a contract extension, and Breer believes Stroud is conducting himself “with a seriousness that underlies the big year he has in front of him.” Citing good health and a growing relationship with OC Nick Caley, Breer adds that Stroud has also taken “more command of the offense” this summer. The Texans might not need Stroud to be a prolific passer every week, given their elite defense, but it sounds like Stroud is taking the necessary steps to deliver more reliable results when called upon. Hopefully, he indeed rises to the occasion when the regular season arrives.
  • HOU Quarterback #7
The Texans exercised Stroud’s fifth-year option earlier this offseason, making him extension-eligible with two seasons left on his contract. Caserio said there is a “possibility” an extension is reached before the season starts, but nothing is set in stone yet. Getting a deal done soon appears to be a priority for the Texans and contract talks at least sound positive between management and Stroud’s agent, David Mulugheta. For now, there have been “productive conversations” between the two sides.
  • HOU Quarterback #7
Caley adds that Stroud “looks good” and is “locked in.” These comments were made in relation to Stroud’s offseason work with his new QB coach, Jerry Schuplinski, who also happens to be Caley’s mentor. Former Texans QB coach Jerrod Johnson left the organization this offseason after learning that the staff planned to reduce his role. Per Caley, Stroud and Schuplinski are working well together, and Schuplinski is focusing on getting Stroud back to his rookie season form. This report doesn’t give us a ton to go on, but the fact that the offensive coordinator is pleased with his quarterback’s offseason development is at least positive. For now, continue treating him as a starter in superflex leagues.
  • HOU Quarterback #7
Stroud, according to DJ Bien-Aime, cut out all sugar and consumed nothing but “water and lean food.” This has led to some offseason weight loss as Stroud angles for a new contract with the Texans. “Expect a slimmer Stroud,” Bien-Aime said. Houston might exercise Stroud’s fifth-year option before committing to him long term after his ugly end to the 2025 season. Stroud had a solid 2025 season overall, finishing 12th in EPA per drop back — just behind Jared Goff — and 20th in QB accuracy, just ahead of Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers. Stroud will likely be a distributor in a run-first Houston offense this season and a nice option in superflex leagues.

    Harold Fannin

    CLE Tight End #44

Harold Fannin caught 3-of-5 targets for 27 yards and a touchdown in the Browns’ Week 4 win over the Steelers.

The score was his third trip to paint in the previous two games after Fannin notched his first two touchdowns of the young season in a Week 3 win over the Panthers. Fannin appears to be behind both Denzel Boston and KC Concepcion in the target pecking order in Cleveland, but remains well ahead of veteran Jerry Jeudy as the third target in the offense. Continued fantasy production likely hinges on the play of quarterback Deshaun Watson, but Fannin appears set to return meaningful fantasy value for managers that invested a middle-round pick on his services this summer. Fannin remains a back-end TE1 ahead of a Week 5 meeting with the Jets on the road.

KC Concepcion caught 5-of-8 targets for 64 yards in the Browns’ Week 4 win over the Steelers.

Concepcion continues to operate as the primary slot receiver for a Browns team clearly looking to their youth while phasing out veteran Jerry Jeudy, the latter of whom managed three receptions on three targets for 36 yards. Concepcion has yet to lead the team in receiving while working in a short area role, with this the first game thus far which he has gained more then 43 yards. He’ll be a difficult start in fantasy circles when the Browns take on the Jets in Week 5.

Denzel Boston caught 4-of-7 targets for 89 yards in the Browns’ Week 4 win over the Steelers.

Boston has now led the Browns in receiving in three of the team’s first four games, made more impressive by the fact that those were the first four contests of the youngster’s professional career. The second-round rookie continues to flash big play potential after catching his third pass of 46 yards or longer, this time unable to find the end zone after scoring twice in his first two games. Boston still has room to grow considering he has seen just 22 targets in the first month of the season, and could reward fantasy managers that invested late-round picks in his services handsomely in the second half of his rookie year. He’ll be an upside FLEX option against the Jets in Week 5.

Quinshon Judkins rushed 17 times for 53 yards and a touchdown in the Browns’ Week 4 win over the Steelers, adding 43 yards on six receptions.

The rushing efficiency remains a big issue for Judkins and the Cleveland ground game, this time overcoming just 3.1 yards per carry with a short touchdown plunge and significant involvement through the air. The end result was the first start-worthy fantasy line for Judkins through four games. The poor performances on the ground don’t appear to be in line for remedy ahead of a Week 5 meeting with the Jets, although Judkins could be headed for another robust workload considering the expected game environment between two teams whose identity is driven by their defense. He’ll be a volume-driven RB2 after seeing 27 of 32 available running back opportunities against the Steelers.

Deshaun Watson completed 24-of-33 passes for 268 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Browns’ 27-24, Week 4 win over the Steelers, adding 33 yards on seven carries.

Watson made very few mistakes through the air against a solid Pittsburgh defense, although a third quarter fumble on a scramble attempt and a fourth quarter interception on tipped pass at the line of scrimmage allowed the Steelers the runway to make the game interesting late. Watson also badly missed a wide open Harold Fannin on a third down play that would have allowed the Browns to ice the game, instead giving the ball back to Aaron Rodgers with under four minutes to play while up eight points. Rodgers would work his late-game magic to knot the game at 24 before Watson drove the Browns into field goal range to set up the go-ahead kick with 10 seconds on the clock. Watson had a 20-yard carry wiped from his ledger due to penalty that would have padded his counting stats further. The two turnovers notwithstanding, Watson played a largely clean game that saw the Browns improve to 3-1, currently alone atop the AFC North, pending the outcomes of the Ravens and Bengals games Sunday. The Browns turn the page to a Week 5 meeting with the Jets, where Watson will remain a surprising high-end QB2 in fantasy circles.

Pat Freiermuth caught 3-of-5 targets for 17 yards and a touchdown in the Steelers’ Week 4 loss to the Browns.

Freiermuth found the end zone late in the fourth quarter for his second touchdown of the season, tying fellow tight end Darnell Washington for fourth on the team with five targets. Washington managed to corral just two of his five targets but eclipsed the yardage total of Freiermuth with 27 yards while also adding a touchdown of his own. Both tight ends appear unlikely to contribute viable counting stats considering neither has seen more than five targets in a game during the first month of play.

Michael Pittman caught 2-of-4 targets for 15 yards in the Steelers’ Week 4 loss to the Browns.

That makes two consecutive games with two receptions for the veteran X receiver, who continues to be handily outplayed by teammate Roman Wilson. Pittman brings his season total in receptions to seven after missing Week 2 with injury and remains largely confined to the short areas of the field. The Steelers made good on their promise to increase their 12-personnel utilization against the Browns, and it was Pittman who saw his route participation suffer the most. Pittman is quickly bordering drop candidate territory ahead of a Week 5 meeting with the Colts.

Roman Wilson caught 3-of-6 targets for 74 yards and a touchdown in the Steelers’ Week 4 loss to the Browns.

Wilson got the scoring started in the first quarter to cap a 17-play opening drive from 12 yards out. He continued to work in a downfield role, padding his stats with 62 additional yards on two more receptions, in addition to drawing an illegal contact penalty earlier on the first drive. Wilson wold briefly depart late in the fourth quarter following his final reception of the game as he appeared to land on the ball awkwardly going out of bounds. Fantasy managers will want to track his practice status closely ahead of a Week 5 meeting with the Colts, where Wilson will carry interesting FLEX appeal in a growing role.

DK Metcalf caught 5-of-9 targets for 115 yards in the Steelers’ Week 4 loss to the Browns.

Metcalf managed just three receptions through the first three-plus quarters of play before making two grabs for 50 yards on the team’s penultimate possession, eventually resulting in a tie game with under two minutes to play following a successful two-point conversion. Even though this marks the third game in four tries with nine or more targets, Week 4 was the first game with more than 40 yards for Metcalf as he works to strengthen his connection with Rodgers in a downfield role. In fact, Metcalf more than doubled his year-to-date yardage total from the previous three games against two of the better coverage corners in the league. The individual matchup doesn’t get much easier ahead of a Week 5 meeting with the Colts, who boast another top corner duo in Sauce Gardner and Charvarius Ward. Metcalf remains a wide range of outcomes weekly WR3.

Jaylen Warren rushed 17 times for 93 yards in the Steelers’ Week 4 loss to the Browns, adding 33 yards on three receptions.

Warren’s six targets combine with his 17 carries to give him his second consecutive game with more than 20 opportunities in the absence of Rico Dowdle, seeing all but two running back opportunities in the process. More impressive was the fact that he once again maintained elite efficiency on the ground through the additional touches, averaging 5.5 yards per attempt against a solid Browns run defense. The veteran back appears likely to revert to a strict timeshare with Dowdle expected back for Week 5 after the long week, bringing him back to the RB3 range for a meeting with the Colts.
