Mike Evans (ribs) did not practice on Thursday.

49ers GM John Lynch said earlier today that Evans “will make every attempt” to play in Week 4 against the Broncos. The veteran receiver is no stranger to playing through injury. He attempted to do so last week with a hip injury, but taking a hit to the ribs knocked him out of the game. If active, he will be a WR2, albeit with re-injury risk.

Jay Croucher and Drew Dinsick look into the best bets for a big MNF matchup between a fiery Chicago Bears offense and a lockdown Seattle Seahawks defense.

None of these comes as a surprise. All of Bosa, Evans, and Samuel were already ruled out earlier in the week, and Sigle has missed multiple weeks with an ankle injury. Brandin Cooks and Christian Kirk are likely to lead the 49ers’ pass catchers against the Falcons this week, and both are worth adding in deeper formats in case either emerges as a legit weapon while Evans (Achilles) and Samuel (hamstring) are sidelined.

He didn’t practice all week and will get San Francisco’s Week 8 bye to recover. The 33-year-old’s absence will leave veterans Christian Kirk and Brandin Cooks along with youngsters Jacob Cowing and Jordan Watkins on the 49ers receiver depth chart for Sunday.
  • SF Wide Receiver #5
NBC Sports’ Jennifer Lee Chan reported earlier this week that Evans is expected to “miss a little time,” making his two absences unsurprising. Evans has not been formally ruled out, and he is no stranger to playing through injury, but fantasy managers should expect him to miss the 49ers’ Week 7 game against the Falcons.

Evans is already expected to miss “a little time” because of his Achilles tendinitis, so this isn’t a surprise. It’s safe to assume he’s out for at least Week 7, but the good news is that it’s not expected to be a long-term issue. Evans could be back as soon as Week 9 following the 49ers’ bye week. With Deebo Samuel all but ruled out for this week’s matchup with Atlanta, Brandin Cooks and Jordan Watkins are set for starting roles on Sunday.

Neither did Mike Evans, who is dealing with Achilles tendinitis. These absences shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Evans is expected to miss Week 7 after aggravating his Achilles issue on Monday. Samuel is expected to miss “at least a couple of weeks” and has been sidelined for just one game so far. Jordan Watkins and Brandin Cooks are in line to start for the 49ers this week. What a time to be alive.
  • SF Wide Receiver #5
Chan speculates that the window for his recovery could align with the team’s Week 8 bye week, meaning Evans would miss just one game with an aggravation of the Achilles injury that had him listed as questionable heading into Monday Night Football against the Commanders. All things considered, it’s solid news for Evans, the 49ers, and his fantasy managers. Expect a more concrete update from the team in the coming days as they limp into a Week 7 game against the Falcons down plentiful impact wide receivers.

Evans came into the game with two injury designations, ribs and Achilles, ultimately suiting up. He limped to the locker room with the help of training staff and was seen in the tunnel pointing to his Achilles. The 33-year-old receiver has been on the injury report for much of the season, with the most recent ailment potentially proving to be too much to play through. Expect an update from the team after the half. Evans caught 3-of-5 targets for 94 yards prior to departing. 49ers beat reporter Jennifer Lee Chan reported after the game that Evans’ Achilles is intact but will “miss a little time.”
  • SF Wide Receiver #5
Evans will gut it out in Week 6 as fellow wide receiver Deebo Samuel is unable to go. Look for the bulk of the aerial offense to flow through Evans, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey, the three of whom handily led the team in route participation a week ago following Samuel’s departure. Inactive for the 49ers are QB Kurtis Rourke, DE Nick Bosa, WR Deebo Samuel, S Marques Sigle, LB Garret Wallow, OT Enrique Cruz Jr., and DT Naquan Jones.

Evans did not log a practice in the days leading up to Monday night’s game against the Commanders, but the team still listed him as questionable on Saturday. Schefter reports the Niners want to see how Evans looks during pregame warmups, but it sounds like they are somewhat hopeful he will be active for Monday’s game. Evans has caught 24 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns this season and went for 7-113-1 on 10 targets in last week’s win over the Seahawks. He would be a must-start on Monday against Washington if he is active.

Evans was unable to practice through Friday but ultimately did enough to land a questionable tag with multiple injury designations. However likely it is that Evans continues to play through various ailments, fantasy managers could look to make alternate plans considering the timing of the 49ers’ game on Monday.

Tytus Howard (concussion) is questionable for Week 8 against the Steelers.

Howard returned to the practice field Friday after missing both sessions to start the week, keeping the door open for him to clear concussion protocol in time for Sunday’s game against the Steelers. Howard will need to remain asymptomatic and gain clearance from an independent neurologist to play.

Colts coach Shane Steichen said Sauce Gardner (calf) will be active for Indianapolis’ Week 8 game against the Jaguars.

Gardner missed last week’s game after suffering a calf strain in Week 6 against the Titans, but will return after getting in a limited session on Wednesday and a full practice on Thursday. We’re assuming that means he’s in line for another full practice today.

Billy Bowman (hamstring) is questionable for Week 8 against the Buccaneers.

Like teammate Divine Deablo, Bowman returned to the practice field Thursday with a limited showing after missing the Week 7 win over the 49ers. The team gives him the questionable designation for Week 8 against the Buccaneers, keeping the door open for a return following one missed game. We’ll gain further clarity when the team released inactives 90-minutes prior to first kick on Sunday.

Divine Deablo (forearm) is questionable for Week 8 against the Buccaneers.

Deablo returned to the practice field in limited capacity Thursday after missing the team’s Week 7 win over the 49ers, keeping the door open for a return to the active game-day roster. We’ll get our final update when the team announces their inactives 90-minutes prior to first kick on Sunday.

Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) will not play in Week 8 against the Buccaneers.

Robinson will miss a second straight game with his hamstring injury, which positions Khalil Herbert to again serve as the backup to Bijan Robinson. Herbert rushed two times for nine yards in last week’s win over the 49ers while adding one reception for 19 additional yards. He will not be on the streaming radar this week.

Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said A.J. Brown (knee) is questionable for New England’s Week 8 game against the Dolphins.

This feels like a very optimistic questionable after Brown missed the last two practices of the week with a new knee tweak. Brown-reliant managers should be making contingency plans ready for Sunday. “We’ll see when he comes in tomorrow, and we’ll make a decision,” Vrabel said.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Jonathan Taylor will play in Week 8 against the Jaguars.

Steichen said Taylor will see a full workload despite being the subject of trade rumors for a Colts team that will clearly be sellers at the deadline. Taylor is healthy and not on the injury report, so this is strictly an update to inform fantasy managers they can start him with confidence this week. Taylor remains a high-end RB1 as long as his normal workload remains intact.

Colts coach Shane Steichen said Tyler Warren (groin) is “good to go” for Indianapolis’ Week 8 game against the Jaguars.

Warren was limited in practice on Thursday and Wednesday and will return to a rough receiver corps against a Jaguars defense coming off bye. Warren remains a startable TE1, but it’s hard to forge much of a ceiling case for him at this point.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Josh Downs will play in Week 8 against the Jaguars despite his trade request.

Steichen confirmed that Downs did indeed request a trade, but that won’t stop him from being on the field this week against the Jaguars. The Colts appear to be in full sell mode after trading away OG Quenton Nelson and DT DeForest Buckner earlier this week. Downs has been on the practice field this week and profiles as a fringe WR3/WR4 after a string of tough outings.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said Antoine Winfield Jr. will return in Week 8 against the Falcons.

Winfield has missed the last three games due to fractured ribs he suffered in Week 4. Winfield has earned a 76.8 defensive grade per PFF this season while racking up 24 tackles. The Panthers’ secondary held up fairly well during his three-game absence, allowing only 235.0 passing yards per game, but his return will be a welcomed one for Bowles and his defense.
