Jordan Addison caught 4-of-6 targets for 52 yards in the Vikings’ Week 4 win over the Dolphins.

Addison’s box score could have looked a little bit better, had his 21-yard gain on a curl route during the Vikings’ third drive not been erased by a penalty. Regardless, he played sidekick to T.J. Hockenson in this one. For his part, Addison maximized his opportunity, delivering the longest play of the game via a 27-yard catch on a crosser in which he barreled through multiple Dolphins defenders to generate extra yardage. The Vikings also gave him the ball on a jet sweep, but he lost one yard on it. Addison will be a WR3 against the Saints next week if Justin Jefferson (ankle) is still sidelined.

According to O’Connell, Addison has “a little hamstring soreness,” though it is “considered minor.” Keep an eye on this. Hamstring injuries can quickly become problematic at the wide receiver position. If active and practicing fully by the end of the week, Addison will be a WR3/FLEX against the Saints.

Addison dominated air yards and targets with Justin Jefferson sidelined with an ankle injury he sustained in the second quarter. His 41-yard touchdown grab from Kyler Murray was one of three downfield looks he got on the day; he nearly converted the other two as well. A non-factor in the Vikings’ first two games of the season, Addison should be locked into lineups if Jefferson misses any time with the ankle issue. If Jefferson returns for Week 4 against the Dolphins, Addison would figure to be flex-viable as long as Murray is under center.

It’s another disappointing statline for a wideout held without a catch in Week 1, though it was yet another game where we didn’t get to see the Vikings’ “real” offense. With Kyler Murray out with a concussion, Carson Wentz was fed to the wolves at rainy Soldier Field. Murray is expected back for Week 3 in Tampa, and with him, hopefully finally a useable statline for the Vikes’ talented No. 2 receiver.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell ruled out veteran receiver Jauan Jennings, citing a death of a close family member. Jennings will step away from the team to mourn the passing, leaving Tai Felton as the player most likely to step into his vacated role when the Vikings take on the Bears. Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison should take on all the volume they can handle with the team also without Jordan Mason. Jefferson is a locked-in WR1 while Addison offers an intriguing upside-WR2 profile after putting up a dud in Week 1.
  • MIN Wide Receiver #3
Carson Wentz took over for an injured Kyler Murray early in this game and did what any good backup does: He peppered his top wideout with targets. Justin Jefferson saw nine looks, T.J. Hockenson was targeted twice, and no other Viking earned more than two targets. Addison should rebound in Week 2 against a Bears defense that just gave up 37 points to Carolina. He will be in the WR4 mix no matter who lines up under center for Minnesota.
  • MIN Wide Receiver #3
Addison jammed his thumb in Tuesday’s practice, but head coach Kevin O’Connell said tests did not reveal a serious injury. Running routes in individual drills Wednesday, Addison did not catch passes and worked off to the side during team drills. Ultimately, he will miss some practice time but the injury is not serious and Addison should be back as the Vikings’ No. 2 wideout heading into the season.

Pelissero affirmed Addison’s role as a guest on the Rich Eisen Show. He prefaced the remarks by saying that WR Jauan Jennings’ signing “immediately raises questions” about whether the Vikings planned to move on from Addison before saying that they, in fact, do not. Jennings was brought in on a “cut-rate,” one-year deal to play the No. 3 wide receiver role.
  • MIN Wide Receiver #15
We assumed this was the case, though Jennings’ size allows one to wonder if he might be valuable in heavy personnel packages. Nailor departed for the Raiders earlier this offseason. Vikings No. 2 WR Jordan Addison was suspended for Weeks 1-3 last season. From Week 4 on, Addison out-snapped Nailor 714-to-507. Expecting a similar split from Addison and Jennings this season is reasonable.
  • MIN Wide Receiver #15
The deal includes an $8 million base salary. Jennings can make an extra $5 million via incentives. This will be Jennings’ first time playing for a team other than the 49ers, who drafted him in the 2020 NFL Draft’s seventh round. Jennings, 28, caught 55 passes for 643 yards and a career-high nine touchdowns last year. He should start in three-wide receiver sets alongside Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. Jefferson will rarely leave the field, but one wonders if Jennings (6'3/212) might be able to steal snaps from Addison (5'11/175) in two-wide receiver sets, in part due to Jennings’ run-blocking ability. Addison, 24, is the more talented receiver, so we expect him to remain the No. 2 target earner, but this dynamic is worth keeping an eye on in training camp. For now, Jennings can be viewed as a WR4/FLEX, while Jefferson sits in the WR1 tier and Addison in the WR2/3 range.

The official decision comes nearly a month after EVP Rob Brzezinski said the team was planning to do so. It’s been an up-and-down start for Addison through the first three years of his career. The former No. 23 overall pick has tallied a career receiving line of 175-2,396-22 in his career while playing opposite Justin Jefferson, with his best season (70-911-10) coming as a rookie. Addison missed three games last season due to a suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, and was arrested for misdemeanor trespassing charges earlier this offseason. While it wouldn’t be surprising if he and the Vikings eventually hammer out an extension, Addison may need to play out his contract through the 2027 season if he hopes to land the long-term deal.

Seahawks RB George Holani (ribs) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Holani was listed as a limited practice participant due to a rib injury on Wednesday. The 26-year-old operated as a passing-down backup to Emanuel Wilson in Week 4 with Jadarian Price out. Unless he misses practice later this week, he is still on track to play in Week 5, though Holani does not have a large enough role to achieve fantasy relevance.

Broncos CB Patrick Surtain (ankle) did not participate in Wednesday’s practice.

Neither Surtain or Riley Moss (ribs) practiced on Wednesday. Head coach Sean Payton said the Broncos don’t anticipate placing Surtain on injured reserve. The injuries to both corners look to be shorter-term; Surtain is week-to-week while Moss’ return timeline is not disclosed yet. Both are on the wrong side of questionable for Week 5 against the Chargers.

Chargers OL Trevor Penning (concussion) did not participate in Wednesday’s practice.

Penning suffered a concussion in the Chargers’ Week 4 loss and is still in the protocol to start the week. Also not practicing was G Kayode Awosika, who has missed multiple games with a fibula injury. Both are in jeopardy of missing Week 5, dealing serious blow to Justin Herbert’s offensive line.

Chargers WR Quentin Johnston (chest) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

In addition to Johnston, TE Charlie Kolar (forearm) and WR Brenen Thompson (quad) were also limited. Johnston has played in every game this season, but pops up on the practice report with a chest issue on Wednesday. He is not yet in danger of missing Week 5, barring setbacks later in the week. Neither Thompson nor Kolar have played since Week 2 but both have a chance to return this week against the Broncos. With Ladd McConkey (foot) not practicing, Johnston may have fantasy value as the Chargers’ No. 1 wideout this week.

Chargers WR Ladd McConkey (foot) did not participate in Wednesday’s practice.

Though head coach Jim Harbaugh ambiguously said we would get McConkey in practice, the 24-year-old is officially listed as a non-participant on Wednesday. Harbaugh also previously stated McConkey will be day-to-day after he re-aggravated the foot injury in Week 4. Ultimately, it’s unclear if McConkey will play this week given he generally pushes through injuries with little practice time, but a re-aggravation could lead to a game missed this time around. Stay tuned for practice reports later in the week to provide clarity on his Week 5 status.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Chargers OT Joe Alt (neck) is expected to miss Week 5 against the Broncos.

An already disappointing season continues to tumbler for the Chargers. LT Rashawn Slater (ankle) is already out this week and Alt will join him on the injury report. Neither starting tackle has been able to stay healthy over the course of their careers, making life difficult for QB Justin Herbert. Though Alt is expected to miss this week against the Broncos, Rapoport adds that there are “no plans” for him to go on injured reserve.

Seahawks RB Zach Charbonnet (knee) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Charbonnet is starting to ramp up to a return from his torn ACL last season. The Seahawks opened up his practice window and he was limited on Wednesday. He is already ruled out for Week 5, but a Week 6 return is not out of the picture just yet.

49ers EDGE Nick Bosa (knee/calf) did not participate in Wednesday’s practice.

Bosa has yet to return to practice since injuring his calf two weeks ago in practice. He is listed with both knee and calf injuries and is seemingly not close to returning to in-game action. Bosa will need to practice before we can consider him ready to go for Week 5 or beyond.

Texans EDGE Will Anderson (ankle) did not participate in Wednesday’s practice.

Anderson popped up on the injury report with an ankle issue to open the week. As one of the league’s elite pass-rushers, the 25-year-old is a key cog to the Texans defense. He did not practice Wednesday, putting his Week 5 status in jeopardy. Anderson still has chances to practice later this week and play against the Titans, but any time missed puts the 0-4 Texans in an even deeper hole.

Eagles WR Devonta Smith (hamstring) did not participate in Wednesday’s practice.

Smith still has not returned to practice since last week, continuing to deal with a hamstring injury. Given his lack of practice reps ahead of travelling to London for Week 5, Smith is on the wrong side of questionable for this week’s matchup against the Jaguars. Also not practicing was WR Hollywood Brown (ankle). The Eagles will play Week 5 with a severely banged-up skill position group.
