Jeremiyah Love said he told Cardinals coaches that Tyler Allgeier and Bam Knight were in better shape to play than he was in Week 4 against the Giants.

Love engaged in a long, candid conversation with Cardinals beat reporters after the game today, saying his snaps are being managed because he currently is “not able to go out there and do spectacular plays every single time.” Love said this is probably going to be the “longest year” of his life, and his preseason ankle injury is not the only thing he is dealing with. Love said his body is sometimes just “tired,” and that he would “probably just hinder the team” if he took on more work in his current state. He rhetorically asked, “why not put somebody else out there that’s playing better?” For those wondering, the Cardinals don’t go on bye until Week 14. They face the fantasy-friendly Lions defense in Week 5, which could help Love get his confidence back with an efficient performance.
Texans open practice window for Dell to return
Kyle Dvorchak expects a "slow ramp up" for Tank Dell after the Houston Texans opened the practice window for the WR to return to IR, and though his fantasy relevance may be limited, it could elevate his teammates.

It’s been an odd 24 hours for Love, who was quoted after Sunday’s game saying this is shaping up to be the “longest year” of his career while also adding that he’s “tired” and would be willing to pass off work to Tyler Allgeier or Bam Knight in the event that he doesn’t think he can do what is being asked of him. As for this latest injury, LaFleur said the ankle injury isn’t the same one Love injured in the preseason, meaning he now has two ankle injuries to manage for the rest of the season. The Cardinals’ backfield was already proving hard to predict, and the latest quote from Love, coupled with the injury news, doesn’t exactly instill more confidence in him going forward. He draws a plus Week 5 matchup against the Lions, but should be treated as a fringe RB2/RB3 for now.

One week after getting out-touched 26-6 by Jeremiyah Love, Allgeier got the situation back to “third and manageable” this week with his rookie backfield mate winning the handles war by a more modest score of 15-10. With the Cardinals spending most of the second half playing from behind, Allgeier was gobbling up snaps on third down and in the two-minute drill. That was coach Mike LaFleur’s explanation for his greater involvement. Allgeier’s score was a 22-yarder where the Cards’ line sprung a hole and Allgeier shed a few tackles. Cool stuff, though Allgeier remains a low-ceiling FLEX in this deficient offense, one dominated by target hogs Trey McBride and Michael Wilson.

Love “added” a -8 yard reception. One week after seeming to seize complete command of the Cardinals’ backfield with a 26-touch, 109-yard performance, Love out-touched Tyler Allgeier just 15-10. It was Allgeier who notched a 22-yard touchdown. Asked about it afterwards, coach Mike LaFleur lamely mentioned something about the Cardinals’ two-minute offense. Twitter doctors were claiming Love — who had only one fourth quarter touch — was dealing with some sort of injury, but we didn’t see it. Neither LaFleur nor Love made any mention of any kind of supposed issue after the game. We assume he will be fine ahead of a potential Week 5 shootout with the Lions.

Allgeier lost nearly all high-value touches to Jeremiyah Love in Week 3, falling far behind the rookie in total opportunities and sinking further in total snaps. He saw 31 snaps to Love’s 55, seeing just six touches to Love’s 26. Allgeier’s most usage came in passing-down situations, catching four passes while pass-blocking was his most prominent role. Allgeier holds little standalone value with Love taking over the backfield; he could just be a useful bench hedge against an injury at this point.

Love tallied a career-high 26 touches in Week 3, gashing the 49ers’ banged-up offensive line for over 100 total yards. The rookie out-snapped Tyler Allgeier 55-to-31 while also out-touching him 26-to-6. Nearly all the high-value touches went to Love, who scored on a play-action pass at the one-yard line. The path to true workhorse usage is wide open for Love after a monstrous workload and productive fantasy day against the 49ers. He is a high-end RB2 for Week 4 against the Giants.

Allgeier failed to generate more than five yards on a touch all night. Rookie RB Jeremiyah Love fared slightly better, but the Seahawks’ defense simply bottled up the Cardinals’ backfield. Allgeier is a capable back but needs help from his offensive environment to generate usable fantasy stat lines. He can only be viewed as a touchdown-dependent FLEX against the 49ers next week, although he remains a worthwhile bench stash.

On Friday, Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur said Love and RB Tyler Allgeier are going to rotate this season. Ultimately, they did in Week 2, but Love was in for the first series, running the ball on three of the Cardinals’ first six plays. The rookie running back looks spry and explosive, yet there was simply no room to run against the Seahawks’ elite defense. Although Love is still splitting snaps with RB Tyler Allgeier, Love out-touched him 12-7 this week. Love can be viewed as a low-end RB2/FLEX next week against the 49ers.

LaFleur is again insisting that Love, the No. 3 overall pick of this year’s draft, and 2026 free agent signee Allgeier will rotate in the backfield, while adding that it “is a long season.” Love saw 13 touches in last week’s win over the Chargers, while Allgeier had 19, and was out-snapped by Allgeier 41 to 32. A similar rotation going forward would put a damper on Love’s week-to-week upside after the rookie spent most of the offseason going as a top-30 pick in fantasy drafts, but he’ll maintain a decent value as long as he continues to see double-digit touches. Both Love and Allgeier will be hard to trust as anything more than fringe RB2/RB3 this week against the Seahawks.

Breer believes the split from Week 1 is “probably a good window into how they’ll manage” Love’s rookie year. Not exactly what we wanted to hear. Breer also mentions that James Connor could “help lighten the load” when he comes back. Love had 13 touches in Week 1. It sounds like this backfield will run by committee even after spending the No. 3 overall pick on Love.

Love was out-snapped 41 to 32 by Tyler Allgeier, who also handled 17 rush attempts compared to Love’s 11. While there was some concern over whether or not Love was on a snap count due to his ankle injury, LaFleur said the usage between the two backs was based on game flow. Love still managed to see 15 opportunities (11 rushes, 4 targets) in the win, but as long as he and Allgeier continue to split work, he will be hard to trust as anything more than a fringe RB2/RB3. Next week’s game against a stout Seahawks defense makes both backs risky bets.

Joe Alt (neck) did not practice Wednesday.

In true Chargers fashion, their once-promising offensive line has been scattered to the winds by injuries. Left tackle Rashawn Slater won’t play this week because of an ankle injury. Now their right tackle could also be put on ice. Already one of the most disappointing offenses of the year, there’s almost no hope for the Bolts to turn things around this week.

Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said WR Brenen Thompson (quad) will resume practicing on Wednesday.

Thompson is unlikely to be FLEX-viable, but the Chargers need all the help they can get, and he at least took a few first-team reps during preseason play. At worst, his speed will help keep safeties honest whenever he retakes the field on game day.

Zay Flowers (hamstring) was limited on Wednesday.

Initially, it looked like Flowers might not practice today. He was not present during the portion of practice open to the media, but apparently joined his teammates later on. He will likely be catching passes from backup QB Tyler Huntley against the Falcons this weekend, but he remains WR2-viable at worst.

Tyler Smith (thumb, IR) is questionable for Week 5 against the Bucs.

Smith was designated to return from injured reserve earlier this week. He went on IR at the end of training camp after undergoing surgery on his thumb. The Cowboys still need to officially activate him from injured reserve before tomorrow night, so we will get a definitive answer on his status ahead of kickoff.

Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said Ladd McConkey (foot) will be at practice on Wednesday.

The phrasing is slightly ambiguous, but we believe he is saying McConkey will be present and participating in some capacity — likely as a limited participant. Harbaugh told reporters yesterday that McConkey was considered day-to-day after aggravating his foot injury in Week 4 against the Seahawks. Getting in a limited session to begin the week gives him a chance to play in Week 5 against the Broncos.

Rueben Bain (groin) will play in Week 5 against the Cowboys.

Bain missed Week 4 with the groin issue but logged three full practices this week before being cleared from the injury report. He should play without any restrictions on Thursday night.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said it will take a few weeks for S Brian Branch (Achilles) to ramp up before playing on game day.

Branch has officially resumed practicing, but he has a 21-day practice window to bring himself up to speed. The team has handled Branch’s recovery responsibly thus far. He is unlikely to be rushed out there, no matter how poorly the Lions’ defense is playing. We do not expect him to face the Cardinals in Week 5.

Chase McLaughlin (groin) will play in Week 5 against the Cowboys.

McLaughlin had a hip/groin issue pop up during practice this week but has since been cleared to play on Thursday. With the offense struggling to move the ball under Jalon Daniels, McLaughlin is not on the fantasy radar for Week 5.

Baker Mayfield (thumb) will not play in Week 5 against the Cowboys.

This was just a formality as Mayfield is expected to miss between three and six weeks with a dislocated thumb. Jalon Daniels will make his second start tomorrow against the Cowboys. Daniels struggled through the air in Week 4, throwing for just 148 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. He did, however, add 55 yards on the ground. His legs will keep him in the QB2 mix for Week 5.

Jonathan Greenard (ankle) was not seen at Wednesday’s practice.

Greenard is reportedly considered day-to-day after suffering an ankle injury in Week 4. A DNP would put him on the wrong side of questionable for Week 5. Safety Marcus Epps was also absent from practice. He suffered a groin injury in practice last week and did not suit up on Sunday. He will likely miss this week’s contest as wel.
