Devaughn Vele caught 6-of-9 targets for 54 yards and a touchdown in the Saints’ Week 4 loss to the Falcons.

Vele’s nine targets ranked behind only alpha Chris Olave, although he was headed for another modest fantasy outing before a garbage time touchdown with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of the blowout loss. Vele has yet to eclipse 69 yards through the first month of play as he continues to operate in an intermediate role for a Saints team struggling to attack downfield. Fantasy managers could consider sitting Vele against the ferocious Vikings defense in Week 5.

Vele nearly added a decent first-down pickup to his box score, but he was unable to secure the pass as he was diving to the ground. Aside from that, he had a nice 17-yard gain in which he ripped his leg away from a would-be tackler and scampered away for a few extra yards. Vele is a boom-bust FLEX against the Falcons next week.

It seems like Brown is very unlikely to play at this point. His agility and long speed define his game as a gadget player and return specialist. His absence could benefit WR2 Devaughn Vele and WR Bryce Lance.

It was another solid outing for Vele, who has now caught 12 passes for 133 yards and one touchdown in his first two games this season. Vele’s biggest play came on a third-and-eight when he hauled in a 29-yard reception to extend a drive that ended with a Daniel Carlson field goal. Vele is the clear-cut WR2 for the Saints at this point and could be worth a dart throw in deeper leagues next week as a WR3/WR4 in Week 3 against the Raiders.

Underhill adds that Olave’s hamstring issue is not expected to be a “problem.” If this really is a non-issue, perhaps Olave just experienced cramping today and will be back out there on Friday, practicing in full. That said, soft tissue issues that pop up mid-week are typically not good. Saints No. 2 WR Devaughn Vele is worth adding if he is a free agent.

Vele stepped in as the Saints’ No. 2 receiver with Jordyn Tyson on injured reserve. He did a flawless impression of a top-10 pick, making multiple diving grabs to keep the Saints alive in the second half. The Saints acquired Vele via trade last offseason but couldn’t get him going until late in the season. He then missed the final month of the year with a shoulder issue. A healthy offseason seems to have done him well, and he’s now poised to be the No. 2 receiver on a fast, pass-heavy offense until Tyson returns. Vele will be a WR4 for his Week 2 matchup with the Ravens.

Tyson left practice last Thursday with a hamstring injury and sought opinions from multiple doctors over the weekend. Now he’s slated to miss roughly two months, according to Rapoport. It’s a tough blow for the 22-year-old receiver who also battled hamstring injuries during his college career. The Saints also drafted receivers Bryce Lance and Barion Brown, though Devaughn Vele could be first in line for additional targets while Tyson is out.

Vele’s season is over. He caught 25-of-36 targets for 293 yards and two touchdowns this season. The Saints acquired him via trade from the Broncos in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick. Vele recently showed chemistry with Saints QB Tyler Shough, catching 5-of-6 targets for 69 yards in Week 15 against the Panthers before leaving due to the shoulder injury. He may be allowed to compete for No. 2 receiving duties behind WR Chris Olave next season.

Vele flew too high, winning multiple contested catches in Week 15 against the Panthers. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound wide receiver will now miss Week 16 after picking up a shoulder injury last week. Ideally, Vele returns in time to play in at least one more game and continues to carve out a role as a possession receiver in the Saints’ offense for next year. Saints WR Chris Olave became QB Tyler Shough’s go-to receiver only after Vele left last week’s contest.

Initially questionable to return, Vele never did. Vele was diving all over the place against the Panthers, catching 5-of-6 targets for 69 yards before exiting. The big-bodied wide receiver picked up multiple first downs and played a key role on the Saints’ 17-play third drive. He first found a soft spot in the Panthers’ zone coverage, gaining 10 yards on a curl route by picking up a few yards after the catch. He later went sky-high on a dagger route and high-pointed the ball before being met in the air by CB Mike Jackson, who tackled him for a 17-yard gain. He could be a boom-bust FLEX against the Jets next week, if active.

Vele’s 40 yards were a far cry from his shocking Week 13 total of 93, but he actually led the team as Tyler Shough attempted only 20 passes in rainy conditions. One of Vele’s grabs was a huge late third-down conversion. Having now easily consolidated Rashid Shaheed’s vacated targets in this high-attempts offense, Vele is displaying some WR4 juice. It’s just so hard to tiebreak in favor of a Saint with bye weeks over and the fantasy playoffs beginning. Despite an improving Shough, this remains a below-average fantasy environment.

Tyler Shough (hand) is not on New Orleans’ final Week 5 injury report.

As expected, he’ll start and be on the QB1/QB2 borderline against an extremely pesky and attacking Vikings defense that has held down quarterback scoring quite well so far this year.

Chris Olave (foot) is not on the final injury report for Week 5 against the Vikings.

The Saints gave Olave a rest day on Wednesday. He then logged a limited practice on Thursday, listed with a new foot injury, and was reportedly seen sporting a walking boot after practice. ESPN’s Kat Terrell notes, however, that “walking boots are often a precautionary measure.” The fact that the team cleared him right away is reassuring. He can be treated as a low-end WR1, as usual. Monitoring news for updates is, of course, prudent.

Alvin Kamara (back) is questionable for New Orleans’ Week 5 game against the Vikings.

Kamara practiced on Thursday and seems likely to be the “lead” back in New Orleans’ committee against Minnesota on Sunday. If he is ruled out, Kendre Miller and CJ Donaldson will receive boosts.

Vikings LT Christian Darrisaw (concussion) will not play in Minnesota’s Week 5 game against the Saints.

He did not practice all week with the concussion. Brian O’Neill is questionable. Ryan Van Demark will likely play left tackle for Darrisaw, while 2026 third-rounder Caleb Tiernan is the likely reserve if O’Neill can’t go.

Raiders ruled out Dont’e Thornton (hamstring) for Week 5 against the Patriots.

The Raiders activated Thornton’s 21-day practice window this week. Despite the young wide receiver saying he feels “ready to play,” the team has determined that he needs more time. With Jalen Nailor (concussion) also ruled out, Cody White (ankle) and Malik Benson will round out three-wide receiver sets behind Tre Tucker.

Jordan Addison (hamstring) is questionable for Minnesota’s Week 5 game against the Saints.

Addison practiced on Thursday and Friday after taking Wednesday off. We’d consider him on the optimistic side of questionable for Sunday’s game against New Orleans, but he will probably only be a WR3/FLEX play if Justin Jefferson (ankle) also returns.

Raiders ruled out Jalen Nailor (concussion) for Week 5 against the Patriots.

The Raiders entered the season with a thin wide receiver corps, and the unit just got thinner. Tre Tucker will continue functioning as the team’s top wide receiver and second pass catcher, backed up by Cody White (ankle) and rookie Malik Benson. Nailor does not need to be rostered in 12-team formats.

Justin Jefferson (ankle) is questionable for Minnesota’s Week 5 game against the Saints.

Jefferson practiced on Friday after limited sessions on Thursday and Wednesday. He also insisted that he plans to play when asked earlier this week. We think he’s on the optimistic side of questionable as he returns as close to LSU as he can in the league.

Raiders coach Klint Kubiak said Ashton Jeanty (foot/ankle) is questionable for Las Vegas’ Week 5 game against the Patriots.

Kubiak didn’t get into real specifics about the injury when asked. Mike Washington just found his way into real contingency value and is a worthwhile stash/hedge anywhere he was dropped. Jeanty did not practice Friday after a limited session (and the addition of a foot tag) on Thurdsay, so this certainly doesn’t appear to be heading in the right direction. That said, we knew Jeanty would be managing something after the preseason ankle injury and the Raiders have given out rest days on Friday quite a bit already this year. Jeanty is likely something close to truly questionable.

Saquon Barkley (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 5 against the Jaguars.

With Barkley ruled out and Tank Bigsby (core) on injured reserve, the Eagles will officially go with Will Shipley and Dameon Pierce as their top two backs. Shipley feels like a safe bet to serve as the team’s primary pass-catching back, but whether or not he sees the majority of rush attempts is to be determined. It wouldn’t be surprising if Pierce, who profiles as more of an early-down grinder than Shipley, leads the Eagles’ backfield in carries this week, but fantasy managers shouldn’t rush to add him to their lineups. Shipley will likely fall somewhere in the RB2 rankings this week, while Pierce is nothing more than a stash at the end of fantasy benches.
