Devaughn Vele caught 5-of-7 targets for 64 yards in the Saints’ Week 2 win over the Ravens.

It was another solid outing for Vele, who has now caught 12 passes for 133 yards and one touchdown in his first two games this season. Vele’s biggest play came on a third-and-eight when he hauled in a 29-yard reception to extend a drive that ended with a Daniel Carlson field goal. Vele is the clear-cut WR2 for the Saints at this point and could be worth a dart throw in deeper leagues next week as a WR3/WR4 in Week 3 against the Raiders.
Gordon, Wright expectations after Achane's injury
With De’Von Achane out for the season with a torn ACL, Patrick Daugherty and Kyle Dvorchak caution fantasy owners from expecting too much production from Ollie Gordon II or Jaylen Wright off of waivers.

Vele nearly added a decent first-down pickup to his box score, but he was unable to secure the pass as he was diving to the ground. Aside from that, he had a nice 17-yard gain in which he ripped his leg away from a would-be tackler and scampered away for a few extra yards. Vele is a boom-bust FLEX against the Falcons next week.

It seems like Brown is very unlikely to play at this point. His agility and long speed define his game as a gadget player and return specialist. His absence could benefit WR2 Devaughn Vele and WR Bryce Lance.

Underhill adds that Olave’s hamstring issue is not expected to be a “problem.” If this really is a non-issue, perhaps Olave just experienced cramping today and will be back out there on Friday, practicing in full. That said, soft tissue issues that pop up mid-week are typically not good. Saints No. 2 WR Devaughn Vele is worth adding if he is a free agent.

Vele stepped in as the Saints’ No. 2 receiver with Jordyn Tyson on injured reserve. He did a flawless impression of a top-10 pick, making multiple diving grabs to keep the Saints alive in the second half. The Saints acquired Vele via trade last offseason but couldn’t get him going until late in the season. He then missed the final month of the year with a shoulder issue. A healthy offseason seems to have done him well, and he’s now poised to be the No. 2 receiver on a fast, pass-heavy offense until Tyson returns. Vele will be a WR4 for his Week 2 matchup with the Ravens.

Tyson left practice last Thursday with a hamstring injury and sought opinions from multiple doctors over the weekend. Now he’s slated to miss roughly two months, according to Rapoport. It’s a tough blow for the 22-year-old receiver who also battled hamstring injuries during his college career. The Saints also drafted receivers Bryce Lance and Barion Brown, though Devaughn Vele could be first in line for additional targets while Tyson is out.

Vele’s season is over. He caught 25-of-36 targets for 293 yards and two touchdowns this season. The Saints acquired him via trade from the Broncos in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick. Vele recently showed chemistry with Saints QB Tyler Shough, catching 5-of-6 targets for 69 yards in Week 15 against the Panthers before leaving due to the shoulder injury. He may be allowed to compete for No. 2 receiving duties behind WR Chris Olave next season.

Vele flew too high, winning multiple contested catches in Week 15 against the Panthers. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound wide receiver will now miss Week 16 after picking up a shoulder injury last week. Ideally, Vele returns in time to play in at least one more game and continues to carve out a role as a possession receiver in the Saints’ offense for next year. Saints WR Chris Olave became QB Tyler Shough’s go-to receiver only after Vele left last week’s contest.

Initially questionable to return, Vele never did. Vele was diving all over the place against the Panthers, catching 5-of-6 targets for 69 yards before exiting. The big-bodied wide receiver picked up multiple first downs and played a key role on the Saints’ 17-play third drive. He first found a soft spot in the Panthers’ zone coverage, gaining 10 yards on a curl route by picking up a few yards after the catch. He later went sky-high on a dagger route and high-pointed the ball before being met in the air by CB Mike Jackson, who tackled him for a 17-yard gain. He could be a boom-bust FLEX against the Jets next week, if active.

Vele’s 40 yards were a far cry from his shocking Week 13 total of 93, but he actually led the team as Tyler Shough attempted only 20 passes in rainy conditions. One of Vele’s grabs was a huge late third-down conversion. Having now easily consolidated Rashid Shaheed’s vacated targets in this high-attempts offense, Vele is displaying some WR4 juice. It’s just so hard to tiebreak in favor of a Saint with bye weeks over and the fantasy playoffs beginning. Despite an improving Shough, this remains a below-average fantasy environment.

Vele also recovered an onside kick late in the fourth quarter to keep hope alive for the Saints. They would eventually fail to convert a quarterback sneak on fourth down, putting their comeback effort to bed. Chris Olave dealt with back spasms in practice this week. He was listed as questionable heading into today’s game. Olave suited up but posted a quiet box score outside of a touchdown, catching just four passes. The back issue likely forced the Saints to lean on Vele—normally their No. 2 receiver—in this game. Olave should be healthier next week, putting Vele’s ceiling somewhere around the WR4/5 border versus the Bucs.

Giants head coach John Harbaugh confirmed on Monday that Brian Burns suffered a torn ACL in Week 3’s win over the Titans.

The Giants have now lost key starters in back-to-back weeks due to serious knee injuries. Burns will undergo season-ending knee surgery in the coming days and should be ready to go for the start of next season if all goes well. The veteran pass-rusher totaled four tackles this season and failed to record a sack.

49ers signed DE Matt Judon, formerly of the Bills.

Judon will join the 49ers’ practice squad with a “early chance for elevation,” according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The 34-year-old pass-rusher failed to record a sack in the 14 games he appeared in last season and has tallied 9.5 sacks since the 2023 season. As injuries continue to mount for the 49ers, it wouldn’t be surprising if Judon was activated as early as this week when the Niners host the Broncos.

Giants coach John Harbaugh confirmed Jameis Winston remains the team’s starting quarterback.

Jameis will be the starter for “as long as I can see into the future” per Harbaugh, so we’re guessing maybe 2-3 weeks. It will likely take J.J. McCarthy some time to get up to speed with the Giants. Winston has played woeful football through two appearances, not throwing a touchdown and being held under 120 yards twice despite 49 pass attempts over the past two weeks. Winston will be a bottom-end superflex option in Week 4.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Justin Jefferson’s ankle injury is not “anything long-term” and that he could play in Week 4 against the Dolphins.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell said after Sunday’s game that Jefferson was “close” to returning, so Monday’s report isn’t all too surprising. While Week 4’s game remains on the table for Jefferson, the Vikings could very well opt to sit him this week against a Dolphins offense that’s among the worst in the league and just lost its star player to a torn ACL. Jefferson’s status will be one to monitor throughout the week, but it wouldn’t be surprising if the Vikings rested him for at least one week given the injury and the upcoming matchup.

Ravens head coach Jesse Minter said C Ethan Pocic is looking at a long-term absence with the knee injury he suffered in Week 3 against the Cowboys.

The Ravens are down their top two centers after starting C Jovaughn Gwyn suffered an ankle injury in the same game. Rookie Vega Ioane is being prepared to start at center ahead of Week 4’s game against the Titans. Pocic has appeared on just 10 offensive snaps this season.

Ravens HC Jesse Minter said C Jovaughn Gwyn’s ankle injury is likely to sideline for multiple weeks.

To make matters worse for the Ravens, veteran Ethan Pocic, who replaced Gwyn in Sunday’s win over the Cowboys, is also dealing with a long-term knee injury that he suffered in the same game. The Ravens are preparing 2026 first-round pick Vega Iaone to play center in Week 4’s game against the Titans, but could also look to add a center in the coming days if they deem it necessary to do so. This is just the latest blow to an offensive line that was already down at left tackle, with Ronnie Stanley currently nursing a toe injury. Stanley was unable to practice in the days leading up to the game against the Cowboys; we’ll see if he can get on the field in any capacity this week ahead of a matchup against the 0-3 Titans.

Commanders coach Dan Quinn said Jayden Daniels (elbow) will travel with the team to London and practice in “some capacity this week.”

Quinn also included Chig Okonkwo and LB Frankie Luvu in the group of players who could return to practice this week, depriving us of a little nuance. We wouldn’t go into Week 4 waivers anticipating that Daniels is going to play, but it probably isn’t entirely off the range of outcomes after Sunday’s reporting said he could return in “three weeks or sooner.”

Saints coach Kellen Moore said Travis Etienne Jr. (hamstring) “will miss time” and that a timeline for his return has not yet been determined.

It’s unclear how much time Etienne will miss, but it wouldn’t be surprising if this became an injured reserve stint. Alvin Kamara could find himself in a more elevated role next week, perhaps with Kendre Miller joining him in a committee. Etienne exited Week 3’s loss to the Raiders with the injury after rushing for 57 yards on 13 carries. It had already been a tough scene for Etienne-reliant fantasy managers this year just based on how the results on the field were going; this won’t help.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Breece Hall is considered week-to-week with a quad injury.

According to Rapoport, Hall received “good news after the MRI” he received after he suffered a thigh injury in the Jets’ Week 3 loss to the Lions. It doesn’t sound like Hall will be in line to suit up for Week 4’s game against the Bears, but he could avoid being placed on IR if the Jets believe he can return in less than four weeks. Braelon Allen will presumably take over as the Jets’ lead back during Hall’s absence, while Isaiah Davis could also see some work on offense after playing primarily on special teams through the first three weeks of the season. Allen has rushed 19 times for 61 yards and a touchdown this season while also tallying four receptions for 11 yards. He will border on the RB2/RB3 range in Week 4 against the Bears.

Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles said Bucky Irving “is not on the team’s injury report” after Week 3.

Irving was spotted on the sideline for the majority of the fourth quarter. It’s possible that Irving just did something that irked Bowles rather than actually suffering an injury, but given how Irving’s injuries quickly manifested last season, we’re going to want to see that on the official injury report on Wednesday before we dial the status down to “unconcerned.” This news does seem to leave Kenny Gainwell as a lower-priority waiver claim.
