Breece Hall (quad) will not play in Week 5 against the Browns.

Braelon Allen will once again be in line to lead the Jets’ backfield with Hall sidelined for a second consecutive week. Hall did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday and will presumably be a DNP again on Friday, now that he has been ruled out ahead of practice. Allen saw 100 percent of the Jets’ running back opportunities last week, rushing 14 times for 59 scoreless yards while adding two receptions for an additional eight yards on two targets. He’ll be a fringe RB1/RB2 in what should be another high-volume day for the third-year back.

Allen surprisingly added just one catch for zero yards on four targets. Not ideal, though Allen’s rushing output nearly doubled his previous career high of 59. It was exactly what the Jets and fantasy managers needed during Breece Hall’s second straight absence with a quad injury. Allen contributed runs of 10, 17, 11 and 22 yards, with that final rush finding the end zone. He also had a 13-yarder called back by holding. In other words, he was both grinding out tough yards and providing longer gains. Isaiah Davis mixed in for only cursory breather back work. With Hall yet to resume practicing, Allen should have another plug-and-play RB2 setup in Week 6 against the Patriots.

It doesn’t look like Hall will practice this week as he recovers from the injury he sustained in Week 3. That would mean Braelon Allen, who saw all 14 running back rushes for New York in Week 4, will again function as the team’s workhorse in Week 5 against the Browns. Allen should still be considered a top-24 option despite the Jets’ immense offensive struggles last week against Chicago. The Browns’ defense is allowing the sixth-highest EPA per rush this season. Hall was officially a non-participant on Wednesday’s injury report.

Allen accounted for every running back rushing attempt for New York with Breece Hall (quad) sidelined. He also ran a route on 14 of the team’s 19 drop backs on a low-volume day for the Jets offense. It’s fantastic usage, even if it didn’t amount to much in the lopsided affair. Allen should remain in lineups next week against the Browns if Hall remains out. His pass game involvement could give Allen plenty of weekly upside for now.

Mitchell will miss another game with his finger injury and Hall will be sidelined with a quad injury he sustained last week against the Lions. Garrett Wilson, with Mitchell out, should continue dominating air yards and targets in the balanced Jets offense. Braelon Allen will take over as New York’s lead back for now and should be in all fantasy lineups against a suspect Chicago run defense. Kenyon Sadiq has some streaming appeal with Mitchell out.

Hall was initially mentioned as being week-to-week when he was diagnosed with his quad injury, so he was never really considered a candidate to play in Week 4 despite the team waiting until the end of the week to rule him out. With Hall out, the Jets will look to Braelon Allen to handle most of the backfield duties. Allen will profile as a solid RB2 candidate with a chance for more upside in what could be a high-volume day against the Bears. In addition to Hall, the Jets also ruled out OG Dylan Parham (knee), TE Mason Taylor (thumb), and LB Kiko Mauigoa (quad) for Week 4.

A “Week-to-week” designation leaves us struggling to see any way that Hall plays this week. Braelon Allen should be a reasonable RB2 in Hall’s absence. Hall will likely be questionable at best for Week 5.
  • NYJ Running Back #20
Hall went down with a quad injury on Sunday against the Lions and did not return to the game. Braelon Allen took over as the Jets’ lead back, a role he’ll likely continue to occupy in Week 4 against the Bears’ gettable rush defense if Hall is sidelined. Allen should be rostered in all leagues and could be a top-20 option in Week 4.

According to Rapoport, Hall received “good news after the MRI” he received after he suffered a thigh injury in the Jets’ Week 3 loss to the Lions. It doesn’t sound like Hall will be in line to suit up for Week 4’s game against the Bears, but he could avoid being placed on IR if the Jets believe he can return in less than four weeks. Braelon Allen will presumably take over as the Jets’ lead back during Hall’s absence, while Isaiah Davis could also see some work on offense after playing primarily on special teams through the first three weeks of the season. Allen has rushed 19 times for 61 yards and a touchdown this season while also tallying four receptions for 11 yards. He will border on the RB2/RB3 range in Week 4 against the Bears.

Hall exited in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Lions and did not return to the field after being ruled out quickly. Braelon Allen went on to handle backfield duties for the remainder of the game and will be a top waiver wire add this week if Hall were to miss any time. Hall has gotten off to a bit of a slow start this season, rushing for 51-163-1 (3.2 YPC), but has caught all 10 of his targets for 102 scoreless yards. Allen would be a fringe RB2/RB3 in Week 4 against the Bears if Hall is held out.

Breece Hall suffered a thigh injury late in this game and did not return, leaving Allen as the lead back for the Jets’ final two drives. He touched the ball six times on the pair of drives. Fellow backup Isaiah Davis did not touch the ball once. His role would likely grow if Hall misses time, but Allen is the clear target in his backfield on waivers. Allen would push for an RB2 ranking if Hall is sidelined for Week 4 against the Bears.

Christian Gonzalez (shoulder) said he is “ready” to play in Week 6 against the Jets.

Gonzalez told ESPN’s Mike Reiss that his shoulder is feeling “good” after sitting out in Weeks 4-5 to let it heal. This is an important game for the Patriots (3-2), who currently sit second in the AFC East, one spot ahead of the Jets (2-3). Gonzalez has traveled around the formation, at times covering the slot this season. This week, he will likely be tasked with covering Garrett Wilson.

Bears coach Ben Johnson said Dayo Odeyingbo (quad) will miss Week 6 against the Falcons but will not be placed on injured reserve.

It’s overall a good update for Odeyingbo, even if the veteran defensive end will miss at least one week. The fact that IR was even mentioned does suggest it could be a multi-week absence for him. Odeyingbo has three sacks and two pass breakups this year.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Talanoa Hufanga is expected to miss “about 2-3 weeks” with an ankle injury.

The former second-team All-Pro safety left last week’s game against the Chargers with the injury. Hufanga has been one of the biggest havoc creators in the league this year with one forced fumble and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. His absence will be a big blow to the Broncos’ defense, which is already without Patrick Surtain II, Jonathon Cooper, and potentially Riley Moss for their Week 6 matchup against the Seahawks.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn said Adonai Mitchell underwent a “small procedure” on his hand.

Per Glenn, Mitchell remains week to week. This explains the lengthy absence for Mitchell, who hasn’t played since injuring his finger in practice ahead of Week 3. According to Glenn, Mitchell is moving his fingers around well, which is hopefully a sign that he will be back soon. With Omar Cooper Jr.'s practice window now open, Mitchell could return to a rather crowded receiver room once he is healthy.

Lamar Jackson (ankle) was not present at the start of Wednesday’s practice.

Jackson could always return for the portion of practice not open to the media, but this is still a concerning start to the week for the superstar quarterback. Jackson missed Week 5 with the ankle injury after failing to practice once during the week. If he remains sidelined for Week 6, Tyler Huntley will make his second start of the year. Huntley acquitted himself well on Sunday night with 201 yards and two touchdowns through the air, plus a score on the ground, in Baltimore’s overtime win over the Falcons. He will be a solid QB2 for Superflex players if Jackson is out again this week.

Bucs coach Todd Bowles said Baker Mayfield (thumb) has not resumed throwing yet.

Mayfield did not practice today and is a safe bet to miss Week 6 as he continues to work his way back from the dislocated thumb he suffered in Week 3. The fact that he can’t even throw a football right now, let alone participate in practice, suggests Mayfield could be out beyond just Week 6. Jalon Daniels will start on Sunday versus the Steelers. Daniels has been held well under 200 passing yards in both of his starts, but he does at least have 78 rushing yards in those contests. His output as a runner will keep him in the QB2 mix for Week 6.

Rashee Rice (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday.

Rice appeared to have a good chance at suiting up for Week 6 when Andy Reid spoke about it after Week 4’s win over the Raiders. Reid only said he “tweaked” his hammy. Even with a bye week to rest, it looks like Rice is now on the wrong side of questionable for Week 6. With Tyquan Thornton on IR, Xavier Worthy may be tasked with WR1 duties this week. He totaled four catches for 70 yards in his last outing and would be a solid FLEX play versus the Chargers if Rice can’t go.

Patriots designated A.J. Brown (ankle) to return from injured reserve.

Brown will return to practice today, likely for a limited session. The team now has 21 days to officially activate him from IR. That could happen later this week, which would mean he’s ready to suit up for Week 6 against the Jets. He would likely be on some sort of pitch count in his first game back, but even a limited AJB would be worthy of a spot in the WR2 ranks.

Jets opened the 21-day practice window for Omar Cooper (ankle).

Cooper has been on injured reserve since sustaining a high ankle sprain in Week 1. He could return as soon as this week against the Patriots, though he could see his snaps and routes limited. Cooper can be rostered in deeper 12-team formats. Garrett Wilson’s domination of the New York passing offense makes it tough for anyone else to post fantasy-relevant numbers for now.

Kenyon Sadiq remains in the league’s concussion protocol.

Sadiq suffered the head injury in Week 5 against Cleveland and did not return to action. Mason Taylor led the team’s tight ends with a 59 percent routes rate against the Browns, catching all three of his targets for 23 yards. If Sadiq remains in the protocol tomorrow, he would be a long shot to play in Week 6. Taylor in that case would be a desperation streaming option in 12-team leagues.
