Alvin Kamara (back) is active for Week 5 against the Vikings.

Kamara will split work with Kendre Miller and C.J. Donaldson. He projects to lead the group in carries and targets, giving him some RB3 potential. Inactive for the Saints are EDGE Anfernee Jennings, S Mike Reid, LB Kaden Elliss, OL Jeremiah Wright, DL Vernon Broughton, and DL Nathan Shepherd.
Phil Simms celebrates another trip around the sun
Mike Florio and Chris Simms wish Chris' dad and former NY Giant Phil Simms a happy 71st birthday with a little trivia and answer the question: who did he throw the first touchdown pass of his career to?

Tyler Shough ended up leading the Saints with seven rushing yards. Yikes. Kamara was effective as a receiver out of the backfield, but to say that New Orleans struggled to run the ball is quite the understatement as they finished with 18 yards on 17 attempts. The good news for fantasy managers that used Kamara is that he was effective out of the backfield as a receiver, but it’s a modest day for the 31-year-old. Kamara and the Saints will try and get something going after a bye against the Browns in Week 9.
  • NO Running Back #41
Kamara was still listed as limited in Friday’s practice, but the Saints feel confident enough in his health to clear him for Week 7. Kamara found the end zone last week on a 31-yard reception, but has largely been inefficient with his touches this season. He seen 14 opportunities to Kendre Miller’s 30 over the last two weeks and will be hard to trust as anything more than a touchdown-dependent RB3 against the Steelers. The only players on the Saints carrying injury designations into the weekend are guard Cesar Ruiz (knee) and DL Nathan Sheperd (illness). Both are listed as questionable.
  • NO Running Back #41
He’s played through this listing for a few weeks now, and though he’ll sometimes get dinged up in game, appears no worse for the wear. Kendre Miller feels like the more viable back in a normal game script right now, with Kamara playing more on passing downs.
  • NO Running Back #41
Kamara has been playing through the back issue for several weeks. He is expected to do so again this week. Kamara is part of a three-back committee, and he isn’t the leader of the trio, but that didn’t stop him from finding the end zone on nine touches last week. With a limited receiving role to go along with his shrinking rushing workload, he’s barely in the RB3 mix for Week 7.
  • NO Running Back #41
The Saints deployed a committee backfield once again for Week 6. Kamara was the third running back into the game for the Saints, but was the only one to score a touchdown. He briefly went to the medical tent after falling on his hip in the first half but re-entered the game soon after. Kamara caught a swing pass from Tyler Shough and tip-toed away from the sideline to score from 17 yards out in the third quarter. With that catch, he became the sixth player in NFL history with 5,000 yards receiving and 5,000 yards rushing in his career. Despite the touchdown and milestone, Kamara was still third in running back snaps and is a touchdown-dependent FLEX play for Week 7 against the Steelers.
  • NO Running Back #41
Kamara is active after NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported he would be expected to play in Week 6. He played through the back injury last week and is part of a rough running back committee in the Saints backfield. Kamara is in the RB4 ranks for fantasy purposes. Also active is Chris Olave (illness). The Saints declared QB Zach Wilson, EDGE Anfernee Jennings, S Mike Reid, LB Kaden Elliss, DT Nathan Shepherd, and DT John Ridgeway inactive for Week 6 against the Giants.
  • NO Running Back #41
Kamara played through the back issue last week, though he only saw five touches. He has fallen behind Kendre Miller in the pecking order for carries, and even CJ Donaldson is pushing him for work on passing downs. Kamara is barely an RB4 for Week 6.
  • NO Running Back #41
Kamara practiced each day this week, so it’s a bit surprising to see him here. Assuming no rough quotes or reports come out, we’d regard him as on the optimistic side of questionable. He’s a reasonable FLEX play against the Giants.
  • NO Running Back #41
Kamara played through this injury in Week 5, and it doesn’t seem like he’s in any real danger of missing this one. It would be nice to see a full practice on Friday, but even if we don’t get that, Kamara should be a FLEX consideration for Week 6.
  • NO Running Back #41
Kamara played through the back injury last week but only touched the ball five times. Kendre Miller rushed 10 times and CJ Donaldson led the team in snaps. The Saints are likely managing Kamara’s workload as he deals with this back issue. Kamara is not on the fantasy radar for Week 6.

Ravens worked out QB Adrian Martinez, formerly of the Jets.

Martinez, who played four seasons at Nebraska and one at Kansas State in college, was the the UFL MVP in 2024. He’s had stints with the Jets and 49ers, appearing in one NFL game. The Ravens are shoring up their QB room after Lamar Jackson (thumb) and Tyler Huntley (toe) went down in Week 8. The Ravens on Tuesday signed journeyman QB Kedon Slovis.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said George Pickens “needs the ball coming in his direction more.”

Jones apparently isn’t happy with Pickens’ usage through Week 8. Pickens has been targeted on 22 percent of his pass routes on the season, well below CeeDee Lamb’s 34 percent rate. He’s accounted for 31 percent of the team’s air yards, nearly the same rate he saw in 2025. In the Cowboys’ humiliating Week 8 loss to the Cardinals, Pickens had nine targets, one short of Lamb’s ten. Perhaps Jerry has not adequately studied the spreadsheets. Either way, Pickens remains an upside WR2 headed into Week 9.

Ravens signed QB Kedon Slovis from the Packers practice squad.

Slovis could, unbelievably, get the start Thursday night against the Jaguars with Lamar Jackson (thumb) and Tyler Huntley (toe) out, and Joe Fagnano (ankle) iffy to suit up. If Fagnano can play, Slovis would presumably serve as Baltimore’s backup. Fagnano completed 48 percent of his passes for 91 yards and a pick last week against the Bills. Look for the Ravens to be ultra run-heavy against Jacksonville, one of the league’s best run defenses. It will be tough to trust anyone in the Ravens offense as a viable fantasy option for now.

Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak said the team’s backfield touch distribution will be a “moving target.”

Mike Washington, Jr. in Week 8 against the Jets took over as the team’s lead rusher, logging 25 carries to just two carries for Ashton Jeanty. While Kubiak said after the game that Jeanty would remain a part of the offense, it’s clear the Raiders are willing to experiment with backfield touches. “You see where your team is at and who’s playing the best ball at the time. It’s a 17-game regular season where things change every week. They’ve been changing at guard, they change up front defensively, they change at corner,” Kubiak said. “That’s the NFL. We have a young roster and we’re going to give guys opportunities and see what fits us best. But your 11, whether you’re playing really well or not playing well at all, it’s always going to change a little bit.” The Raiders through Week 8 rank dead last in EPA per rush and second to last in rushing success rate. Jeanty should remain viable as long as he’s the team’s primary pass catcher out of the backfield. Jeanty ranks fifth among all RBs in expected fantasy points per game.

Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich said he “assumes” Breece Hall will remain the team’s lead back when he returns from injury.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has knocked down suggestions that the Jets would trade Hall before the league’s trade deadline, as Braelon Allen continues as one of the NFL’s most productive rushers. When asked about how the backfield might look when Hall returns from his quad injury, Reich seemed to say Hall would remain the de factor lead runner. “Well, that’s obviously coach’s decision, but they’re both the guy … I mean, that’s a good problem to have,” Reich said. “That’s coach’s decision, but to me … Breece is our guy. I’m assuming Breece is our guy, you know what I mean? He’s one of the best in the NFL, but I think what’s been so excited is like, oh my gosh, we’ve got two of them. I mean, we’ve got two. This Braelon guy, he’s a beast as well.” Allen this season ranks third among running backs in rushing success rate; 11th in rush yards over expected per attempt; eighth in yards after contact per rush; and over the past three weeks he ranks eighth among RBs in expected fantasy points per game, proving the haters wrong along the way. Hall is expected to return to action this week against the Chiefs.

AJ Barner caught 2-of-5 targets for 23 yards in the Seahawks’ Week 8 loss to the Bears.

Barner is far from fantasy consideration having only one game through eight appearances with more than a modest five targets while failing to notch a single receiving touchdown. Fantasy managers can safely return him to the waiver wire in all formats.

Tory Horton caught 3-of-6 targets for 26 yards in the Seahawks’ Week 8 loss to the Bears.

Horton took more massive hits than he had receptions in this one, with Sam Darnold placing him in harm’s way on more than one occasion. He was already fighting through nagging injuries entering the contest but gave it a go with Rashid Shaheed ruled out, with this game likely doing nothing to help him in that regard. Despite finishing second on the team in receiving behind alpha Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Horton is not a startable fantasy asset ahead of a Week 9 meeting with the division rival Cardinals.

Cooper Kupp caught 1-of-3 targets for seven yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks’ Week 8 loss to the Bears.

Kupp was unable to take advantage of the absence of fellow receiver Rashid Shaheed but did cash in for his second touchdown of the season. Kupp’s days of consistent fantasy production are long behind him as the Seahawks head into a Week 9 divisional meeting against the Cardinals approaching must-win territory.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught 6-of-11 targets for 118 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks’ Week 8 loss to the Bears.

Smith-Njigba was the entire offense in the first half, accumulating 92 yards through the air while the rest of the offense managed only two, including his receiving touchdown. Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen made adjustments after the break that confined JSN to only 26 additional yards the rest of the way. Smith-Njigba now has seven 100-yard receiving games in eight appearances as he extended his league-leading yardage totals, far and away the top overall wide receiver in fantasy circles. That position will not change ahead of a Week 9 meeting with the Cardinals.

Zach Charbonnet rushed six times for 23 yards in the Seahawks’ Week 8 loss to the Bears, adding six yards on three receptions.

Charbonnet drew the start but saw four fewer opportunities than rookie Jadarian Price, the latter of whom led the team in rush yards and touches. Expect the two to continue operating in a near-even timeshare moving forward, leaving Charbonnet in shaky FLEX territory ahead of a Week 9 meeting with the Cardinals.
