Cole Kmet (knee) was carted to the locker room in the fourth quarter of Week 7 against the Patriots.

Kmet was sandwiched by two defenders on a hit in the fourth quarter and remained down on the field. He immediately grabbed at his knee as he remained on the turf. The cart was summoned and he was taken to the locker room, giving a thumbs up to the crowd as he went. Fantasy managers in deep leagues will want to track his status in the coming days, but it did not look good. Kmet managed to catch all three targets for 28 yards prior to departing.

Head coach Ben Johnson said after the game that Kmet’s injury didn’t look “very good,” breaking from his normal tendency to avoid talking about injuries. Kmet’s knee buckled from under him in the fourth quarter of Thursday’s game, and he had to be carted from the field after the play. This looked like a potential season-ender when it happened, but tests will confirm the severity of it in the near future. Kmet’s absence could open up more opportunities for Colston Loveland, who has caught 26 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns this season.
  • CHI Tight End #85
Colston Loveland, meanwhile, led the Bears with nine targets in Tyson Bagent’s first start. Kmet has had solid route participation numbers thanks to the Bears’ heavy use of two tight end sets. Even so, he should be left on waiver wires unless or until Loveland misses time. Kmet now has four receptions on the season.
  • CHI Tight End #85
Colston Loveland, meanwhile, caught exactly zero passes as the Bears put up 59 points against a nonexistent Carolina defense. Kmet ran a route on 19 of Caleb Williams’ 39 drop backs against the Panthers and came down with one of Williams’ two touchdown tosses on the day. Kmet will have some fantasy value going forward as long as he has some route running involvement in the potent Chicago offense. He can be added in deeper leagues ahead of Week 2.

    Colston Loveland
    CHI Tight End #84
The Bears broke scoring records in their Week 1 demolition of the Panthers but Loveland — leading the team in pass routes — was largely invisible. Caleb Williams missed a wide open Loveland in the middle of the field in the second half and nearly connected with his second-year tight end in the end zone. Cole Kmet, meanwhile, ran about half of the Bears’ routes and turned three targets into two catches for 35 yards and a score. Loveland is almost certain to bounce back in Week 2 against the Vikings.
  • CHI Tight End #85
Kmet found himself on the receiving end of a miraculous fourth-down throw by Caleb Williams to keep the Bears’ season alive with 18 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Kmet’s score would force the game into overtime, but the Bears came up short in the extra frame after the Rams made the most of a Caleb Williams interception on the Bears’ only drive. Kmet’s numbers have now fallen off in back-to-back years. After going for 73-719-6 in 2023, the sixth-year vet saw his fewest targets (45), receptions (30), and receiving yards (347) since his rookie year this season, and found the end zone just twice. As far as his work as a pass-catcher is concerned, Kmet took a backseat to rookie Colston Loveland this season, and now looks expendable heading into this offseason despite signing a four-year contract extension in 2023. Per OverTheCap, the Bears can release Kmet for a dead cap hit of just $3.2 million if the team makes him a pre-June 1 cut. A post-June 1 cut would carry a $1.6 million dead cap hit. Kmet will turn 27 next season and could have plenty to offer another team as a starter should he become available.
  • CHI Tight End #85
He upgraded to a full practice on Thursday and would appear to be on the optimistic side of questionable after practicing all week. Kmet told reporters that he will play. Normally his presence is a sign to dial back expectations for Colston Loveland in fantasy, but it’s possible the Bears could use a ton of two tight-end looks in Week 16 with both Luther Burden and Rome Odunze ruled out. Loveland will be a playable low-end TE1, while Kmet is on the TE2 line at this point.
  • CHI Tight End #85
Kmet was limited yesterday as well. We fully expected him to suit up for Saturday’s game versus the Packers. With Rome Odunze and Luther Burden likely to miss Week 16, expect a heavy dose of 12-personnel from Chicago’s offense. That will keep Kmet on the edge of the TE2 ranks this week.
  • CHI Tight End #85
Kmet continues to be a thorn in Coleston Loveland’s side rather than a standalone fantasy option. The 26-year-old tight end hasn’t played ahead of his counterpart in about a month, but the three or so targets he gets every game is noteworthy. It’s just not enough for him to be on the fantasy radar in Week 16 against the Packers.

    Colston Loveland
    CHI Tight End #84
Loveland continues to split time with Cole Kmet, which couldn’t be more frustrating for fantasy managers given the difference in production lately. Coming off a game with four catches, 29 yards and a touchdown against the Packers, Loveland had another four catches for 63 yards. Kmet caught just 2-of-4 targets. Loveland is stuck in TE2 purgatory until Kmet is fully phased out.
  • CHI Tight End #85
Kmet got loose on a Caleb Williams scramble drill in the third quarter. Williams bought time and threw a back-shoulder pass to Kmet, who reeled in the throw with a fantastic grab for a gain of 26 yards. He nearly flipped the matchup on Chicago’s final offensive play of the night. Williams scrambled to his left and had Kmet open in the end zone on fourth down. He threw a duck well short of Kmet that was snagged by Green Bay for a game-losing pick. Kmet is splitting reps with Colston Loveland and the rookie has shown far more juice this year. Kmet will remain off the fantasy radar for Week 15 versus the Browns.

Divine Deablo (forearm) won’t play in Atlanta’s Week 7 game against the 49ers.

It’s a slight upgrade for Christian McCaffrey, not that you were thinking about not starting McCaffrey anyway. The Falcons also ruled out CB Billy Bowman Jr. (hamstring) — neither player practiced this week.

Buccaneers ruled out Emeka Egbuka (concussion/foot) for Week 7 against the Panthers.

Just minutes after head coach Todd Bowles said the team would list Egbuka as doubtful, the official injury report listed him as out, despite his limited participation in Friday’s practice. Egbuka was unable to clear concussion protocol in time to be active for this week, and will now set his sights on returning in Week 8 in time to face the Falcons.

Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) won’t play in Atlanta’s Week 7 game against the 49ers.

Bijan should get a larger-than-usual workload this week against San Francisco. The Falcons only have two running backs on the 53-man roster so it may be Khalil Herbert or Jam Miller filling in as (Bijan) Robinson’s backup on Sunday. Herbert seems like the logical choice.

Sauce Gardner (calf) will not play in Week 7 against the Vikings.

Gardner was never expected to play this week after it was announced on Monday that he would be week-to-week with his calf injury. His absence could be a good sign for Vikings pass-catchers this week in what should be a plus matchup against a Colts defense that ranks 14th in fantasy points allowed to receivers this season. In addition to Gardner, the Colts also ruled out WR Anthony Gould (concussion).

Tyler Warren (groin) will not play in Week 7 against the Vikings.

Warren was a DNP throughout the week and has now been ruled out for this week’s game against the Vikings. This will be the second straight missed game for Warren, who first suffered the injury in last Friday’s practice. The Vikings have allowed the fewest fantasy points to opposing tight ends this season, meaning fantasy managers are best off avoiding Will Mallory and Mo Alie-Cox as streaming options this week.

Buccaneers head coach said Emeka Egbuka (concussion/foot) will be doubtful for Week 7’s game against the Panthers.

Bowles said Egbuka remains in concussion protocol and initially said “I’d say he’s out [for Week 7], too,” before saying the second-year receiver would be listed as doubtful. Fantasy managers holding out hope that Egbuka will suit up for Sunday’s game against the Panthers should ensure their backup plan is in place, as players listed as doubtful seldom end up playing on game day. Assuming he’s out, Ted Hurst could be tasked with operating as the Bucs’ WR1. Hurst has caught 11-of-22 targets for 168 yards and one touchdown this season but wouldn’t be viewed as anything more than a WR3/FLEX play even with Baker Mayfield (thumb) back under center.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said Baker Mayfield (thumb) “looks like he’s ready to go” for Week 7 against the Panthers.

Mayfield was a full participant in practice all week and should be removed from the team’s final injury report when it’s released later in the day. Mayfield is expected to wear a protective glove on his throwing hand, which should prevent injury to the thumb he dislocated in Week 3, and will be on the QB2 radar in what is a must-win game for the 1-5 Buccaneers. Hopefully he can improve on a rough start to the season in which he threw for 615-2-2 in his first three games while completing 63.5 percent of his passes.

Lamar Jackson (ankle) was spotted at practice on Friday.

This makes three straight practices for Jackson, who continues to trend in the right direction ahead of Week 7’s game against the Bengals. Jackson was listed as a limited participant in each of the first two practices to start the week and should have a good chance of suiting up, even if he’s only listed as a limited participant. We will provide an update on his official status when the team announces it, but this is yet another encouraging sign for the two-time MVP.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said Josh Jacobs is on track to play in Week 7 against the Lions.

LaFleur said Jacobs’ Week 7 status depends on how he gets through Friday’s practice. The 28-year-old back has looked “great” in practice this week, per an earlier quote from OC Adam Stenavich, and seems to be trending toward a return after a six-week stay on the Commissioner’s Exempt List. At this point, we would be surprised if Jacobs didn’t play this week against the Lions, but it’s too early to assume he will see his normal workload in his first game back. Even if he doesn’t get a full assortment of touches, we would still expect Jacobs to get enough work to justify starting him at RB2.

NBC Houston’s Aaron Wilson reports David Montgomery (groin) will not play in Week 7 against the Giants.

This will be the second game in a row that Montgomery has missed due to the groin injury he suffered in Week 5. Woody Marks, who totaled 17 touches in last week’s win over the Jaguars will again lead the Texans’ backfield. He has averaged 18.0 touches per game over the last two weeks and will be a volume-based RB2 with a chance at significant upside. Safeties Jalen Pitre (AC joint) and S Reed Blankenship (concussion) will also miss this week’s game against the Giants, putting the Texans down a handful of starters with one game left before their Week 8 bye.
