    Mike Washington Jr. (foot/back) questionable

Mike Washington (foot/back) is questionable for Las Vegas’ Week 7 game against the Rams.

Washington didn’t practice on Thursday and was not spotted at practice on Friday. It would seem that he’s a very tenuous questionable at this point. Dylan Laube would be next up for backup duties behind Ashton Jeanty if Washington were ruled out.

At least for one week, the Raiders formalized Washington’s early-down takeover, as the rookie out-carried a doghoused Ashton Jeanty 25-2. However, Washington got routinely stood up on his ample goal-line opportunities, and only out-gained Jeanty 83-73 thanks to Jeanty’s involvement in the passing game. A 45-yard reception where Jeanty literally fell down to catch an inaccurate Kirk Cousins pass only to get up and rumble nearly half the length of the field was by far the biggest play by a Raiders running back in this one. Although Washington now has to be considered the favorite for early-down work, he was uninspiring enough this afternoon that it’s not going to be an open-and-shut case against the 49ers. We would still rather start Jeanty in fantasy because of his pass catching.
  • As usual, Washington was far more efficient than lead back Ashton Jeanty, who had 15 yards on eight carries while catching eight passes for 61 yards and a touchdown. Washington can be stashed for now in case Jeanty misses time in the second half of the season. Washington likely won’t get the pass-catching work if Jeanty misses time, however.
  • Whether Washington plays all that much remains to be seen. He is not a recommended FLEX starter. Raiders coach Klint Kubiak has misdirected at times with injury-related comments. The Raiders declared DT Thomas Booker IV, DE Cian Slone, S Dalton Johnson, DT Jonah Laulu, G Bryan Cabeldue, S Tristin McCollum and QB Aidan O’Connell inactive for Week 7 against the Rams. O’Connell will serve as the emergency third quarterback.
  • Washington Jr. didn’t practice on Thursday or Friday but still received a questionable designation for Week 7. Fowler added that there is “some optimism” that he plays this week, but the pre-game workout will be the determining factor. Washington saw an uptick in carries last week with nine totes for 43 yards. We don’t expect as much work to go this way given the injury situation.
  • Dang. This suggests Washington suffered one or both injuries yesterday in practice. He is firmly in the questionable camp and may have only a long shot at suiting up in Week 7 against the Rams. Without him, Ashton Jeanty should handle a solid workload. Dylan Laube could end up serving as the No. 2 running back.
  • In a semi-surprising twist of fate, the Raiders running back on the practice report with injuries is Washington, who was limited with foot and back injuries on Wednesday. Ashton Jeanty was not listed on the practice report. A limited practice indicates Washington is still trending to play Week 7, but with him appearing on the injury report and Jeanty off, any hopes for Washington achieving standalone fantasy value will have to wait.
  • Washington’s nine carries were only one fewer than the 10 Ashton Jeanty saw on the night, but Washington was by far the more productive back. The rookie fourth-rounder averaged a solid 4.8 YPC in this one and ripped off an 18-yard run in the fourth quarter on a drive that ended with a Tre Tucker touchdown. Jeanty is dealing with a foot/ankle injury that is clearly limiting him on the field. Washington should continue to spell Jeanty in Week 7 against the Rams, but he doesn’t have much to offer fantasy managers as far as reliable production is concerned. He continues to be nothing more than a stash as long as Jeanty is active and on the field.
  • It was odd usage for Washington, who had at least five carries in three of four games headed into Week 5. Even Ashton Jeanty being limited with his ankle and foot injuries did nothing to bolster Washington’s involvement in the Vegas offense. In fact, Dylan Laube was the team’s clear No. 2 back behind Jeanty on Sunday. Laube had four carries and three receptions and punched in a short touchdown in the second half of the blowout loss. It raises serious questions about what Washington’s workload might look like if Jeanty misses time this season.

Jeanty will play through his foot and ankle injuries against New England. It wouldn’t be surprising if he cedes some backfield work to a healthy and much more explosive Mike Washington, however. Jeanty should be considered a top-24 option this week while Washington is a desperation flex. Raiders declared WR Jalen Nailor, QB Aidan O’Connell, S Tristin McCollum, RB Roman Hemby, S Dalton Johnson, OL Trey Zuhn, and DT JJ Pegues inactive against the Patriots.

Per Rapoport, Jeanty had a flare-up of plantar fasciitis last week to go along with his ankle injury. He added that Jeanty will work out before today’s game to see how he’s feeling. If he can’t go, Mike Washington Jr. would see the bulk of the backfield touches. Washington has been an explosive complement to Jeanty this year, averaging five yards per carry on 24 attempts. He would jump to the top of the RB2 ranks if Jeanty can’t go.

Makai Lemon caught 6-of-9 targets for 57 yards in the Eagles’ Week 8 loss to the Commanders.

Lemon led the team in receiving for the second consecutive game without both DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks, although the returns were nothing to write home about in Week 8. Largely confined to a short area role, Lemon’s nine targets were mostly the product of the offense’s inability to attack downfield and carry weak per-target upside, a trend likely to continue for as long as Tanner McKee remains under center. That leaves fantasy managers in a precarious position heading into a Week 9 showdown against the Giants, where better options likely exist.

Saquon Barkley rushed 13 times for 30 yards and a touchdown in the Eagles’ Week 8 loss to the Commanders, adding 24 yards on one reception.

Barkley showed clear limitations as he played through hamstring and back injuries, routinely spotted on the sideline riding the stationary bike and getting stretched out by trainers as he rotated with Elijah Mitchel. The Philadelphia offense remained largely ineffective as they gained only 268 yards of total offense, while Barkley’s longest carry of the game went for only five yards against a solid Washington run defense. Fantasy managers will want to consider their alternatives when the Eagles face the Giants in Week 9.

Tanner McKee completed 23-of-34 passes for 212 yards and one interception in the Eagles’ 27-10, Week 8 loss to the Commanders, adding 25 yards on four carries.

The Eagles scored the first 10 points of the game as they looked to be in control early. Things quickly went south following numerous mental mistakes, penalties, and poor execution, eventually leading to the Commanders scoring 27 straight to send Philadelphia to their sixth consecutive loss. The Eagles continue to have no downfield ability while playing through mounting injuries, with their longest play of the game coming on the final play from scrimmage on a meaningless down. That leaves very little room for error with things like penalties, drops, and sacks, all of which were present in Week 8. McKee and the Eagles limp into another divisional matchup in Week 9 against the Giants, where McKee will carry negligible fantasy value.

The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec reports that Joe Fagnano (undisclosed) said he thinks he is healthy enough to play in Week 9 against the Jaguars.

According to Zrebiec, Fagnano “was hobbled by game’s end, after he took a low and penalized hit” from Bills DL Ed Oliver. Fagnano said he and the team will have to wait and “see” how he is feeling in the coming days, noting that “you’re always going to have bumps and bruises” after a football game. Lamar Jackson (thumb) is already headed to injured reserve and Tyler Huntley will undergo an MRI tomorrow to assess a potential turf toe injury. Zrebiec rightly writes that the Ravens “will almost certainly have to bring in at least one quarterback, if not two,” this week. He lists Anthony Richardson and Tua Tagovailoa as potential trade targets. At this point, it is unclear who will start for the Ravens on Thursday night.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Tyler Huntley is believed to have suffered a turf toe injury and will undergo an MRI on Monday.

Tomorrow’s MRI should clarify whether Huntley will miss time. In the meantime, Lamar Jackson will be placed on injured reserve with what could be a season-ending thumb injury. This leaves rookie Joe Fagnano as the team’s potential starter for the Ravens’ Week 9 Thursday Night Football game against the Jaguars, though Fagnano reportedly got a little banged up today, too. Stay tuned.

Colts Shane Steichen said he is “going to evaluate everything, every position going forward.”

This is the first time this season that Steichen has left open the possibility of replacing Daniel Jones as the team’s official starter. Anthony Richardson replaced him in-game today, with just under 12 minutes remaining. It seems as though Richardson, or even fellow backup Riley Leonard, could end up playing next week against the Cowboys’ fantasy-friendly defense.

Bo Nix completed 20-of-32 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns in the Broncos’ 28-24, Week 8 win over the Chiefs.

Fittingly, Nix’s longest completion of the day was a dump-off to Jonah Coleman that the rookie turned into a 51-yard gain. Nix has two completions of 50+ yards this year. Both have gone to running backs on throws near or behind the line of scrimmage. On the other hand, when Nix did push the ball downfield versus Kansas City, he was largely effective. He completed 4-of-6 throws farther than nine yards downfield. It was a small step in the right direction after weeks of middling production on intermediate and downfield shots. Nix will look to build on this performance versus a beatable Carolina defense in Week 9. He will sit somewhere near the top of the QB2 ranks.

Evan Engram failed to catch any of his three targets in the Broncos’ Week 8 win over the Chiefs.

Engram was not a meaningful part of the Broncos’ offense, per usual. He has three catches for 15 yards over his past three appearances. It goes without saying, but Engram isn’t even on the TE2 radar for Week 9.

Courtland Sutton caught all four of his targets for 53 yards in the Broncos’ Week 8 win over the Chiefs.

Sutton’s 53 yards today are now a season-high, as are his four receptions. That, however, largely speaks to how unproductive he has been this year. Sutton has more games under 20 yards than over 40. He also has just one touchdown through eight games. His signs of life versus the Chiefs will keep him in the WR5 ranks for Week 9, but the ceiling remains nonexistent.

DNVR Broncos’ Zac Stevens reports that the Broncos are “going to try” to trade for Jonathan Taylor.

Stevens said that this trade “could happen at any moment,” telling Broncos Country that they “might not want to go to sleep.” While this could be hyperbole, it sounds like Stevens is saying the trade could go down tonight. Stevens said he’s had conversations with multiple people on the matter, and the Broncos “know that this is not the time to wait and develop” young running backs. Stevens closed by reminding viewers that the Broncos were very interested in Breece Hall at one point, and added that there are likely other backup plans that the Broncos could be considering.
