Christian Watson is questionable to return in Week 8 against the Panthers with a chest injury.

Watson was hurt on a deep pass in the middle of the second quarter, and went to the locker room to be evaluated and will head to the hospital to be further examined. The 27-year-old was playing well prior to the injury with six catches for 100 yards on his seven targets. Matthew Golden will be the primary wideout target for Jordan Love if Watson can’t return.

The fact that Watson was able to even play in the second half was incredible, as the 27-year-old was forced to be examined at the hospital following a chest injury. He didn’t do much after putting up 100 yards in the first half, but again, that’s not really the story here. Watson told reporters after the game that he was coughing up blood and suffered a fractured rib before returning. Assuming no setbacks, he’s a WR1 candidate for Week 9 against the Patriots, but keep in mind Christian Gonzalez — on top of this injury — can make things difficult.

Watson went to the hospital to have his chest injury examined, but obviously checked out well if the Packers were willing to reinsert him into a game where they were leading by two scores. It’s a sigh of relief for fantasy managers, as Watson has been sensational Thursday night with six catches for 100 yards in just one half thus far.
  • GB Wide Receiver #9
Watson remained limited through the first two practices this week. We do not yet know his Friday participation level, but he seems to be ready for action. Watson belongs in the WR1 tier against a Lions’ pass defense that has freely surrendered big plays this season.
  • GB Wide Receiver #9
Watson appears to just be being managed at this point as Matt LaFleur said there are no concerns on him playing in Week 7. Two limited sessions are often a starting point for a questionable listing, but we’d be surprised if it got that far with Watson.
  • GB Wide Receiver #9
The same is true of Matthew Golden, who is dealing with a shoulder issue. Both players were estimated as limited participants for Wednesday’s walkthrough. It doesn’t look like either wideout is at risk of missing the Packers’ upcoming shootout with Detroit. Watson is currently fifth in the league in receiving yards at 538. Golden is sixth at 501. Both players hold a spot in the WR1 ranks heading into Week 7.
  • GB Wide Receiver #9
The Packers held a walkthrough today, so Watson’s status is only an estimate from the team. Given his lengthy injury history, fantasy managers should keep an eye on Green Bay’s injury report tomorrow, though we suspect this isn’t a major issue for Watson. Assuming he gets up to a full practice at some point this week, Watson will be a borderline WR1 for Week 7 versus Detroit.
  • GB Wide Receiver #9
Watson drew lockdown corner Joey Porter Jr. for much of the game, something that aided teammate Matthew Golden in leading the team in both targets and receiving in the win. The talented fifth-year receiver is already within 74 yards of setting a new career high in receiving while also being just one touchdown shy of a new high water mark, two achievements he will look to unlock when the Packers face off against the Lions in a potential shootout in Week 7. Watson remains a back-end WR1 for that matchup.
  • GB Wide Receiver #9
Watson’s 143-yard outburst was the third highest receiving total of his career, joining a Week 11 2024 effort and his 6/147/2 broadside against the Vikings this Week 1. Rather amazingly, the two-score effort was his seventh. This one came in true Watson fashion, as he found the end zone from 42 and 53 yards out. For the 42-yarder he ran right by the defense. For the 53-yarder, he high-pointed the ball off the defender’s helmet in the end zone. It was just that kind of day for the Packers, and it’s been just that kind of season for a wideout in Watson who continues to break out. Now firmly in the weekly WR1 mix, Watson has a potential Week 6 smash spot in the sorry Cowboys.
  • GB Wide Receiver #9
After scoring four touchdowns over the first three weeks, Watson finally cooled off with his first quiet game of the year. Jordan Love couldn’t get the deep ball going in this game and funneled the short targets to Tucker Kraft and Matthew Golden, leaving Watson without much to do. For a player known for having a low floor, 47 yards is a stunningly reasonable floor game. Watson is simply too good at picking up chunk gains to have the bottom truly fall out. He remains a boom/bust WR2 for his Week 5 date with the Bears.
  • GB Wide Receiver #9
Watson now has four touchdowns through three games while ranking one target behind Matthew Golden for the team lead at 29. Even better news for fantasy managers is the fact that we’re likely to see this sudden spike in pass volume continue forward given the current state of the Green Bay backfield and offensive line, meaning fantasy managers can continue to start Watson as a legitimate WR1 ahead of a road meeting with the pass-funnel Buccaneers in Week 4.

Tre Harris caught all three of his targets for 31 yards in the Chargers’ Week 8 loss to the Rams.

Harris was the team’s WR3 behind Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston, as usual. When McConkey is healthy, Harris operates as a part-time player without much of a fantasy floor. He should remain on waiver wires ahead of LA’s Week 9 game against the Texans.

Rashee Rice caught 7-of-8 targets for 53 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs’ Week 8 loss to the Broncos.

Rice was heavily involved early in the game, catching three passes for 26 yards and a score on the Chiefs’ opening drive. His role, however, took a backseat to running back targets in the second half. He caught three balls for 15 yards in the final two quarters combined. Rice briefly appeared to score the game-winning touchdown on the final play of the game, but refs had already blown the play dead because of a false start. Even without the second touchdown, fantasy managers can be confident in Rice as the team’s No. 1 receiver and a low-end WR2 for fantasy purposes going forward. He will sit just inside the WR1 ranks for his Week 9 date with the Jets.

Caleb Douglas caught 4-of-6 targets for 43 yards in the Dolphins’ Week 8 loss to the Patriots.

Malik Willis did not throw a pass to Douglas until just over a minute left in the first half. The talented rookie came down with both two-minute drill targets for a total of 24 yards. He caught two more passes in the second half, seemingly injuring his right ankle while being tackled on the first. He managed to return for the next drive and helped set up Kevin Coleman’s 35-yard touchdown with a 12-yard reception. Douglas should be rostered in most 12-team leagues. He is a WR4/FLEX against the Lions next week.

Oronde Gadsden II caught all five of his targets for 52 yards in the Chargers’ Week 8 loss to the Rams.

Gadsden led LA tight ends in targets and trailed only Ladd McConkey in receiving yards on the day. Operating as a big slot receiver, Gadsden could have some fantasy value if he were to get more snaps and routes in the Chargers offense. In Week 9 against the Texans he’ll be a decent streaming option.

Malik Washington caught 5-of-6 targets for 40 yards and one touchdown in the Dolphins’ Week 8 loss to the Patriots.

Washington continues to play well as a short-area pass catcher, though he did haul in a 23-yarder downfield. He got leveled on the Dolphins’ fifth drive, and Patriots LB Christian Ellis received an unnecessary roughness penalty for the act. It briefly seemed like Washington’s day might be over, but he returned a few plays later to score a one-yard touchdown via a quick out route after going in motion pre-snap. Today’s stat line allowed Washington to clear the century mark in career catches (103). Among NFL wide receivers with at least 100 receptions from 2021-26, Washington’s 8.4 yards per reception ranks dead last. He is a WR4/FLEX against the Lions in Week 9.

Michael Wilson said he is playing with two broken ribs after the Cardinals’ Week 8 win over the Cowboys.

Wilson started the week off by practicing in a non-contact jersey. Now we know why. Wilson told reporters post-game that the Cardinals’ organization has changed his life, and he doesn’t believe in “taking, taking, taking,” adding that if he “can muster up the strength to go play, even at 60 percent,” he’s going to. Wilson will be in the WR3 ranks against the Seahawks next week.

Kimani Vidal had eight rushes for 23 yards in the Chargers’ Week 8 loss to the Rams, adding two catches for seven yards.

Vidal was second on the team in rushing attempts behind Omarion Hampton (9) and ran the second most pass routes behind Keaton Mitchell. Vidal won’t be a legit fantasy option unless Hampton misses time in the coming weeks. He’s a decent stash in deeper formats for now.

Malik Willis completed 21-of-32 passes for 211 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the Dolphins’ 19-24, Week 8 loss to the Patriots, adding one rush for two yards.

Willis practiced in full this week despite being listed with a groin injury. Perhaps the soft tissue issue made him play a little more restrained than we would have liked him to. The Dolphins’ quarterback continues to hold the ball too long. He took five sacks today. His interception was not totally his fault. He was hit by a pass rusher, altering the pass’s trajectory, which bounced off a defensive lineman’s helmet before flying 29 yards downfield, where a Patriots defender picked it off. Willis had another interception called back due to defensive offsides, which was lucky. The Dolphins’ young wide receivers are learning the ropes and could help him churn out usable fantasy line as the season progresses. Willis will be a high-end QB2 against the Lions in Week 9.

Quentin Johnston caught all four of his targets for 37 yards in the Chargers’ Week 8 loss to the Rams.

It was yet another down game for Johnston, who did his work underneath in this one. He now has one game this season with more than two receptions in a Chargers offense that can be described as utterly dysfunctional on every level. Johnston should not be rostered in most fantasy formats.

Omarion Hampton had nine rushes for 20 yards in the Chargers’ Week 8 loss to the Rams, adding two catches for seven yards.

It was business as usual for the plodding Hampton, who breaks no tackles and does nothing beyond what is blocked for him. Hampton, who now has less than 50 rushing yards in five games this season, was third in pass routes among LA running backs on the day and tied with Keaton Mitchell with three targets. Hampton’s role doesn’t offer much: Coming into Week 8, he ranked 31st among running backs in expected fantasy points per game (and 37th in actual fantasy points per game). With no ceiling of which to speak, Hampton should stay on benches in Week 9 against the Texans.
