Chargers signed Mike Williams, formerly of the Steelers, to a one-year, $6 million contract.
Williams spent the first seven years of his career with the Chargers before playing for both the Jets and Steelers in 2024. His most recent season as a Charger, 2023, was shortened by an ACL tear in Week 3. He struggled to perform well last year, playing on a surgically repaired knee while learning two new playbooks in one season. While he may never return to his prior form, Williams’ return to Los Angeles and his reunion with Justin Herbert should yield improved box score performances. Williams will likely compete for the No. 3 role, with incumbent Quentin Johnston presumably operating in the No. 2 role.

    Patriots released LB Ja’Whaun Bentley.
Bentley took to social media to bid farewell to New England. Shortly after, Patriots beat writer Mike Reiss said the team is expected to release him later in the day. The seven-year vet suffered a torn pectoral muscle in Week 2 last season but announced over the weekend that he was fully cleared to return to football, per Reiss. Bentley totaled 100-plus tackles in three-straight seasons before last year’s injury while racking up 8.5 sacks and 15 TFLs over that span. He’ll be 29 at the start of next season and should still have plenty to offer any team interested in taking him on once he hits the open market.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter said he thinks Brandon Aiyuk (knee) could be “ready to play by midseason.”
Speaking on his show, The Adam Schefter Podcast, Schefty said of Aiyuk’s recovery, “From what I understand, Dr. Neal ElAttrache is pleased with his progress. He’s coming along. I think he’s ready to play by midseason.” It’s a longer recovery than we may have expected for Aiyuk, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in last season’s Week 7 game against the Chiefs. However, it’s worth remembering that Aiyuk’s knee injury included a torn ACL and MCL, likely adding to his recovery timeline. Aiyuk has been the subject of potential trade rumors this offseason, but things don’t appear to be much more than surface-level rumors at this point. The sixth-year vet signed a four-year, $120 million extension with the Niners last offseason, but his deal, coupled with his injury, makes him unlikely to be traded even if available. If midway through the 2025 season ends up being his targeted return date, it’s hard to imagine other teams wanting to acquire him until they can see how he looks once he’s on the field.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports WR Hunter Renfrow is meeting with the Raiders.
Renfrow did not play last season after getting released by the Raiders at the end of the 2023 season. Reported as being more “retired” than “unsigned,” it would appear the former fifth-round pick could be eyeing a return. Still only 29 years old, Renfrow had emerged as a reliable slot receiver early in his career and posted a line of 103-1,038-9 in his third season — earning a Pro Bowl nod. He would go on to catch just 61 passes for 585 yards and two touchdowns over his last two years in the league and was limited to just 10 games in 2022 due to injuries. His reduced role ultimately led to his release, but with a new regime now in place and the Raiders needing receiver help, a reunion could bode well for both sides. Rapoport reports that Renfrow also met with the Panthers on Wednesday, adding “he plans to play in 2025.”

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini believes the move to ban the tush push is “getting more momentum.”
The Packers made a move to ban the tush push earlier this offseason, but soon, teams will have a chance to vote on the rule change. The Eagles, Jalen Hurts, and his fantasy managers have all benefitted from their signature play that became a mainstay in their offense in 2022, but now, it’s possible the league will get the 24 votes needed to ban the play before the start of next season. The league moved to ban the same play last year, but fell well short of the votes needed to implement the change. We’ll see if things break differently this time around.
  • CIN Guard #62
Bengals signed OG Lucas Patrick, formerly of the Saints, to a one-year, $2.1 million contract.
Patrick enters his 10th NFL season, playing for his fourth NFL team. The journeyman blocker has never sustained above-average play, but NFL front offices like his tools. He earned a career-best 66.3 PFF run-blocking grade last year. He’ll likely compete with Cordell Volson and Cody Ford for a starting role in camp.
  • Quarterback
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that some NFL teams have graded Shedeur Sanders as a mid-to-late first-round draft pick.
Sanders has meetings scheduled with both the Titans and Browns next week, so being drafted as a top-two pick is still, of course, possible. In recent weeks, Cam Ward has seemingly solidified himself as the 2025 draft class’ top prospect. More narratives will surely spin out of Sanders’ workouts next week, like usual. It’s obvious that most of the NFL only has a first-round grade on Sanders rather than him being a top-five player in the class, but it only takes one team to disagree and draft him high.
  • FA Wide Receiver
FOX Sports Jordan Schultz reports that “Washington State WR Kyle Williams visited the Patriots this week and has at least five more team visits scheduled.”
Williams is rising up draft boards after running a 4.40-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. Williams caught 70-of-101 targets for 1,196 yards and 14 touchdowns and rushed nine times for 57 yards last season. Among the 40 Power Five wide receivers to earn at least 90 targets, his 2.71 yards per route run ranks fifth, and his 8.4 yards after the catch average ranks No. 1 overall. The speedy post-catch producer has a real chance to go on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL draft.
  • FA Quarterback
Beat reporter Nick Underhill reports that head coach Kellen Moore and many of the Saints’ “top people” are expected to attend Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart’s Pro Day on Friday.
Although Derek Carr’s hefty contract is somewhat prohibitive, drafting a promising quarterback prospect is perhaps the most prudent option for Moore, who undoubtedly plans to craft his offense around a talented youngster at some point. Dart has generated some first-round buzz, it would be shocking if the Saints took him No. 9 overall. Underhill notes that the Saints will likely take a look at CB Trey Amos on Friday as well.
  • FA Running Back
Beat reporter Nick Underhill reports that the Saints met with RB Ashton Jeanty at Boise State’s Pro Day and “are looking hard” at the rookie running back prospects.
Underhill declares the running back position “a need” for the Saints, “maybe not right now, but it will be for sure, in the future.” The Saints have also reportedly met with Georgia RB Trevor Etienne and Tennessee RB Dylan Sampson. New Saints head coach Kellen Moore reportedly “likes” Jeanty quite a bit. Alvin Kamara figures to remain the main back for the Saints in 2025 even with a drafted rookie, but the veteran will turn 30 in July.
  • ATL Kicker (FG)
    Falcons signed K Lenny Krieg.
Back in February, Krieg wowed teams at the NFL Combine by converting all 14 of his field goal attempts from various distances. He was also impressive at the NFL’s International Player Pathway pro day, which was held on Wednesday. Krieg, who played two seasons with the Stuggart Surge of the European League of Football, had trips to meet with other teams planned, but signed with the Falcons after meeting with them on Thursday. It will be interesting to see if Krieg can make the 53-man roster since the Falcons already have one-time Pro Bowler Younghoe Koo on their roster.
