It is not every December the golf world will have its eyes glued to the television as the PNC Championship is set to get underway this weekend. A casual, family-oriented event, the reason for excitement is the return of Tiger Woods alongside his son Charlie.

20 teams of two will tee it up at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida. Playing various tees based on one’s age and skill level, this 36-hole scramble saw Team Thomas claim victory in their debut appearance last year.

While Justin Thomas and his father Mike will look to successfully defend their title, Team Woods has inevitably taken center stage. The NBC Sports Predictor App powered by PointsBet Sportsbook has launched a special contest for the PNC Championship with $25,000 guaranteed in prizes to welcome the Woods back to competition.

To help you out with your selections, here are the seven questions for this week’s special contest for the PNC Championship.

1. Best Round 1 Finish:

Team Woods, Team Cink, Team Thomas, Team Daly, Tie

It is hard to choose against not only the defending champions, but the team with the No. 6 player in the world. While I could see Little John Daly and his old man putting up a fight on Saturday, Thomas is a 14-time winner on the PGA Tour in the prime of his career. Don’t overthink it.

Selection: Team Thomas

2. Better Round 1 Finish:

Team Woods, Team Thomas, Tie

Similar to Question No. 1, I will be riding with the Thomas duo to the bitter end. Based on sources – Charlie’s Pre-Algebra teacher – the cub really wants to get the better of Team Thomas, specifically Justin after firing matching 62’s in last year’s first round. While it may be a rivalry in the making, I will side with the 28-year-old and his father over the 12-year-old and his.

Selection: Team Thomas

3. Better Round 1 Finish:

Team Woods, Team Korda, Tie

This may be one of the questions to roll with the Woods, but I caution you to pick against the world No. 1 in Nelly Korda. Coming off a career year with multiple victories, a major championship, and a gold medal, Korda will team up with her father – a former professional tennis player – in their debut appearance. After switching to left-hand low on the greens, she has been a complete force on the LPGA Tour and I expect her good play to carry on.

Selection: Team Korda

4. Birdies or Better Team Woods, Round 2:

0-3, 4-6, 7-8, 9+

Team Woods surpassed the top mark of nine-plus in both of their rounds last year, but I reckon they are due for a bit of a letdown. Tiger is obviously in a completely different place physically compared to a year ago, so while I do believe they will have their fair share of birdies, it may just be a bit less than last year.

Selection: 7-8

5. Total Eagles or Better Full Field:

0, 1-3, 4-6, 7-8, 9+

Surprisingly, Team Woods led the field in this category with three eagles over their 36-holes. With the field totaling 11, I expect the 20 teams to once again exceed this number. While the Woods may not get to three again, the teams of Daly, Kuchar, and Thomas failed to card even one, meaning there is still room for improvement.

Selection: 9+

6. Final Score to Par Team Woods:

-5 or worse, -6 to -10, -11 to -14, -15 to -19, -20 or better

They finished last year’s tournament at 20-under after carding back-to-back rounds of 10-under 62. That appears to be towards the high-end of their potential outcomes, so I don’t mind dipping down to one of the wider ranges here.

Selection: -15 to -19

7. Best Final Finish:

Team Woods, Team Cink, Team Thomas, Team Daly, Tie

Sticking with the theme of our selections, Team Thomas is clearly the team to beat this year. I am unsure how Mike is feeling these days since his health was in question during Ryder Cup week, but I imagine he is doing just fine. Two months removed and possessing plenty of skill in his own right, the PGA Professional should be able to repeat last year’s performance. Toss in his son – who is far and away the best player in this field – and they should have a real chance to successfully defend their PNC Championship crown.

Selection: Team Thomas
