Bobby Gates spun a 7-under-par 33-32=65 in his second round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans to reach the midpoint in 8-under 136, four strokes back of the overnight lead.
Gates had himself a field day at TPC Louisiana, dropping in nine birdies, only two of which on the quartet of par 5s. Four of his birdies measured over 14 feet, including conversions of 17'5", 23'7" and 28'11" at the sixth, 11th and 12th holes, respectively. On the round, he split 12 (of 14) fairways, hit 14 greens and took just 25 putts. Entering the week, he cashed in eight of 12 events this year but posted just one top 45 (T8, Humana).
