The University of Texas alum is making just his second career TOUR start after a missed cut here last year by eight (77-69) and appears headed for his first cash on the main stage. He’s made 23 career starts on the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica, spread over 2014 and 2015, earning a total of $45,347 with four top 10s, including a solo 2nd at the 2015 Avianca Colombia Open, and missed the cut in his lone Web.com Tour start in 2016. The 27-year-old kicked off with a birdie-less 74, squaring four on eight (of 14) fairways and just eight greens in regulation. He mustered six in the short grass on Day 2, but improved to 13 GIR, posting 1.615 putts per GIR and 2.437 SG: Putting. The Dallas native camouflaged bogeys at 15 and 17 with six birdie-3s at 1 (from 25'0"), 4, 6, 8 (18'2"), 14 and 18, the latter from 9'9" that might get him a weekend tee time.
