Beginning off No. 10 tee, World No. 281 Brandon Harkins smoothed a bogey-free, 7-under-par 33-31=64 in the final round of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open to conclude his second appearance (T20/2018) on 14-under 270, up 32 places to T8 with play still in progress. UPDATE: With play completed, Harkins finished T10.
This was the Cal State-Chico alum’s 109th career round and matches his career low shot in R1 of the 2018 CareerBuilder. He was making his third start of the season after a 74th- and last-place finish at the Safeway and a missed cut at the Sanderson Farms. The 32-year-old, who finished 103rd in the FedExCup standings during last season’s rookie campaign, hit 10 (of 14) fairways and 16 greens in regulation, posting rounds of 70-66-70-64. For the week, he totaled 23 birdies, seven in R4, against five bogeys and two doubles, and is currently 6th in putts per GIR (1.630) and 7th in SG: Putting (4.299). If the top 10 holds, it’ll be the Scottsdale resident’s fourth in 34 career events, first since T9 at the 2018 Barracuda, and is right on his career best of T8 at the above-mentioned CareerBuilder.
