Playing out of the penultimate threesome, World No. 295 Ryan Blaum smoothed a bogey-free, 5-under-par 34-31=65 in the third round of The RSM Classic to post 13-under 199, up one place to T4, three back of 54-hole leader Charles Howell III.
Playing his third season, the 35-year-old is chasing his first TOUR title in 71 events. His best finish among four career top 10s is T6 two times, most recently at the 2018 AT&T Byron Nelson. After opening with 69-65, the Duke alum began T5, six short of leader Howell III. He landed 13 (of 14) fairways and 16 greens in regulation, gaining 0.659 strokes off-the-tee and 1.154 approaching-the-green. The Floridian carded five birdies at holes 3, 11, 13, 15 and 16, two from between 11 and 17 feet, registering 1.750 putts per GIR and 0.711 SG: Putting. He’ll play out of the penultimate threesome again in R4.
