PGA TOUR rookie and World No. 404 Joey Garber smoothed a bogey-free, 6-under-par 32-33=65 in the final round of the inaugural 3M Open to finish up on 16-under 268, up 10 places to T7 with play still in progress. UPDATE: With play completed, Garber finished a career-best T7.
This was the 27-year-old’s 24th career event and will be his second top 10, joining a T10 at the opposite-field Puerto Rico Open 10 starts ago. He improves to 9-for-18 on the season with two top 25s and is currently projected to move 21 spots to 154th in the FedExCup standings. After opening with 73-65, one inside the cut line, he ends with 65-65. On 11 (of 14) fairways and 16 greens in regulation, the Georgia alum lost 0.598 strokes around-the-green but gained 0.999 off-the-tee and 0.279 on approach. He carded six birdies at holes 4, 6, 9, 10, 12 and 14, four from between 14 and 23 feet, recording 1.625 putts per GIR and 2.881 SG: Putting. For the week, the Michigan native totaled 24 birdies against six bogeys and one double.
