Coming off a strong finish to his 2020-21 campaign, Hudson Swafford is set to tee it up this week at the Fortinet Championship. Narrowly missing out on the Tour Championship, the former Georgia Bulldog will look for another strong start to his season.
Winning the first of two Corales Punta Cana Resort and Club Championships last season, the 34-year-old got off to a dream start in his 2020-21 season. Playing with house money from there on out, Swafford was a boom-or-bust option during the majority of the year. Missing 16 cuts in total, Swafford still found himself with a realistic opportunity to play into the Tour Championship. Sitting at 31st in the FedEx Cup standings heading into the final round of the BMW Championship, it wasn’t meant to be, but it goes to show how meaningful a strong start to the fall swing can be. Coupling his victory with a runner-up effort at the Palmetto Championship and a strong playoff push, Swafford will likely want to be a bit more consistent this season. Making his sixth appearance in Napa this week, Swafford has made five of five cuts at Silverado, including a top-10 finish in 2014, the first year this tournament was moved to the resort.
