Spaniard Adrian Otaegui finished solo second Sunday at the ISPS Handa Championship in Spain, firing a bogey-free, 4-under 66 in the final round at Infinitum’s Lakes Course in Tarragona to finish one stroke behind winner Pablo Larrazabal.
The 29-year-old Otaegui, a three-time DP World Tour winner, was chasing his first title since the 2020 Scottish Championship. Playing out of the final group, Otaegui created multiple birdie chances and made several saves, but he carded 12 straight pars to open the door for Larrazabal. “It’s been a great day, no bogeys, holed a few par putts, played really well, lots of shots to the pin,” said Otaegui. “I am really happy. Of course, over 72 holes there has been good, and not that good, shots but I think I did the right thing. No. 13 was a birdie hole but couldn’t make it. I need to have some rest now and get ready for next week. I came in playing very well and this week I just played well, so I’m enjoying myself a lot at the moment.” Otaegui will stay in Spain for this week’s inaugural Catalunya Championship at PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness in Girona. He’s made five cuts in five DPWT starts in 2022 with three top-five finishes including a T-5 at the Qatar Masters and T-3 at the Ras al Khaimah Championship.
