From the early wave and beginning on 10 tee, PGA TOUR rookie and World No. 290 Max McGreevy sized up a bogey-free 7-under 32-33=65 in R1 of the opposite-field Barbasol Championship, currently in a six-way T2 and one back of leader Ricardo Gouveia.
The Oklahoma alum, making his tourney debut, arrived 130th in the FedExCup standings and off three consecutive missed cuts. Overall, he’s just 7-for-22 on the season with one top 10, a career-best 2nd at the Puerto Rico Open 12 starts ago, also an opposite-field event, where he was T26 after R1 (70-64-71-69). On nine (of 14) fairways and 13 greens in regulation, the 27-year-old gained 1.667 strokes tee-to-green and 2.993 on-the-green, circling seven at 11, 13 (hole-out from greenside bunker), 15, 1, 2, 4 and 8, two conventionally from between 10 and 17 feet.
