Overnight leaders Beau Hossler and Wyndham Clark settled for a 1-under 71 on Sunday of the Zurich Classic, finishing the week on 27-under 261 to find themselves in third place on the final leaderboard.
This duo had a one-shot lead after 54 holes and they were three shots clear of third place. They couldn’t find that same magic on Sunday, though. They traded four birdies with three bogeys while playing the alternate-shot format. That sounds like a reasonable round given the format but six groups shot 68 or better today, leaving them in the dust. Clark and Hossler were both eyeing their first PGA TOUR titles and Hossler spoke on the difficulty of winning on the big stage after yesterday’s round, “It’s really hard. Honestly, every player out here, the depth on this TOUR is really, really good. Frankly, getting yourself in position to win a golf tournament is difficult, and closing the deal is really hard. I think the more opportunities you get, the more comfortable you get, and hopefully we can lean on that tomorrow.” Those breakout wins will have to wait but a solo-third finish will give them a nice boost in the FedExCup department.
