The 49-year-old Adamonis posted four birdies and two bogeys in his 2-under round of 69 and then survived a 4-for-3 playoff along with Jeffrey Kang and Braden Thornberry to advance to this week’s event along with medalist Patrick Flavin (3-under 68). It will mark the first start in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event this season for the Miami (Ohio) product, who last appeared in Tour action at the 2021 Valspar Championship, for which he Monday qualified and missed the cut. Adamonis has played six events on the APGA Tour in 2022, finishing inside the top 20 in all six 36-hole events with four top 10s, including a third place at Queens Harbour in Jacksonville, Fla., in March.

Visacki fired a 5-under 67 on Monday and then punched his way through a 4-for-2 playoff to earn his seat this week at the Valspar. From there, his post-round phone call to his father ended up going viral. His emotion was spilling out as he broke the news to his dad. The 27-year-old Central Florida product has more than 30 wins on the mini-tours and will finally get to test his skills on the grandest stage. He won’t be on any fantasy radars this week but it would be a real feel-good story if he kept this momentum rolling and played his way to a payday at Innisbrook Resort. Others to qualify on Monday were Jordan Hahn (66), Brad Adamonis (66), and Daniel Chopra (67).

The former PGA TOUR member completed regulation at The Resort at Glade Springs’ Cobb Course in Daniels, W. Va., in 6-under-par 30-35=65. He and Ryan Blaum (32-33=65) outlasted Jamie Lovemark (32-33=65) to snag the final two berths. Daniel Obremski was the medalist at 9-under 32-30=62. Ryan Zylstra took runner-up honors at 7-under 32-32=64. The field at The Old White TPC is now complete at 156.

Adamonis hasn’t had status on the PGA TOUR since 2009. Likewise, it’s been just over four years since his father passed away. He’s played full-time on the Web.com Tour but hasn’t logged a top 10 on either circuit since the ’09 Bob Hope Classic. Other notables that failed to qualify at Iberostar Playa Paraíso Golf Club in Cancún, México, today include Bubba Dickerson and Jonathan Randolph, both of whom shot 74.

The former PGA TOUR member from Providence traded four birdies with one bogey today. He hasn’t pegged it in the big leagues since the 2013 Greenbrier Classic. In fact, the Travelers will be his first TOUR-sanctioned competition in 13 months (2014 Rex Hospital Classic on the Web.com Tour). Jun Hak Lee and David Pastore also carded 35-34=69s today. Both offset two bogeys with five birdies. They’ll be making their PGA TOUR debuts, as will medalist Jean-Philip Cornellier, who shot 4-under 34-34=68 with five birdies against one bogey in the four-spotter. Josh Teater, who has conditional status, was among the trio eliminated in the playoff. The field at TPC River Highlands is now complete at 156.

Adamonis circled five birdies, but couldn’t overcome his only bogey of the day at the par-4 second hole. The former PGA TOUR member was bidding to make his first start on the circuit since the 2013 Greenbrier Classic. Incidentally, he was one stroke outside the number at this year’s Greenbrier OQ. Other notables that failed to qualify for the RBC Canadian Open today include: 69--Lee Janzen; Marc Turnesa ... 70--Frank Lickliter II ... 71--Will Strickler.

Adamonis, who will be 35 next Wednesday, sunk five birdies against one bogey in his debut as a PGA Tour member. He finished T9 at the 2007 Q School and overcame any nerves at Waialae to put himself in terrific position to make the weekend. He limited his mistakes but wasn’t glowing in any one facet today. Of course, that kind of “boring” game can make him a lot of money on tour. Although today was impressive, even the deepest of leagues are advised to let this rookie settle in a bit.

Adamonis dropped seven birdies after hitting a field-tying-best 16 greens today. This is the third straight event in which he’s gone low in the 1st round (Sony-66, Hope-68) but has yet to maintain the strong play through the weekend. The challenge intensifies on Friday when he’ll be on the South Course. With its length and rain scheduled, he’ll have his hands full keeping up with those at the top of the leader board who have a tee time on the North Course.
