Wilshire

Wilshire played his way into the event via Monday Qualifying. He’s taking full advantage of that playing opportunity so far. Wilshire split 12-of-14 fairways, landed 13 greens in regulation, and then caught fire with the flat stick. It was a steady stream of mid-range putts that got the job done as he sank seven putts from the 11-to-13 foot range today. He walked off the course ranked 4th in strokes gained putting (+3.8). This is just the third start of the season (and his PGA TOUR career) and the first time he’s posted inside of the top 40, let alone top 10, after any TOUR round.

This marks the second successful Monday qualifying attempt for Wilshire, who also got into the RSM Classic in November through the Monday event. He carded a 66 on Monday at Hurricane Creek CC in Anna, Texas, making eight birdies and two bogeys. He’ll be joined in the field at TPC Craigh Ranch by medalist Wesley Bryan (64), and Conrad Shindler and Andrew Loupe, who both also shot 66 and advanced via a 4-for-1 playoff over Austin Eckroat. Wilshire missed the cut at the RSM but finished T-62 at the Bermuda Championship in October. He’s also made one start on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2022, finishing T-43 at the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic.

Playing out of Brunswick Country Club, the 29-year-old found his name at the top of the leaderboard at the end of Monday’s qualifier. Courtesy of six birdies and an eagle on the par-4 12th, the former University of Central Florida Knight will look to improve on his performance just a few weeks ago at the Bermuda Championship. Carding rounds of 73-67-72-72, Wilshire finished in a tie for 62nd as he was unable to garner any momentum over the weekend at Port Royal Golf Course.
