Former Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance says on Twitter that his father Bob, a respected Scottish golf coach who had been fighting cancer, has died. He was 82.
Torrance posted the following message to Twitter on Friday.
Sad day my dad just passed away peacefully in his sleep #reallygoingtomisshim pic.twitter.com/XWj6oLGe8F

Bob Torrance built Padraig Harrington’s swing before his 2007 victory at Carnoustie in the British Open. Harrington also won the claret jug at Royal Birkdale in 2008.
Several players paid their respects on social media, including Darren Clarke, who won the British Open in 2011.
Very sad news about Bob Torrance. Spent many hours on the range with him up in Largs. I would not be where I am today without Bob. #RIPBOB
