In 2007, TaylorMade embraced MOI with the popular Burner. The model saw quite a bit of play on all Tours, pros and amateurs alike appreciated its combination of forgiveness, high launch, and low spin. For 2008, TaylorMade has updated and redesigned the Tour Burner to make it an even more playable and effective club.
The changes to the Tour Burner can be seen right from address. The most striking difference is the shape. The new Burner has a very triangular shape, increasing MOI as well as improving launch characteristics. According to TaylorMade the new shape gives it the lowest center of gravity and provides the highest launch and lowest spin of any driver they have made.
Similar to other TaylorMade clubs, the Tour Burner will come in two versions. The tour inspired TP features an open face angle for better players to work the ball. The TP features three high end shafts to choose from including the Mitsubishi Diamana White Board 63, Matrix XCON 5, and Fujikura TP-75. The regular model has a slightly closed face angle which helps promote a right to left ball flight. The stock shaft will be the Fujikura RE*AX 60.
TaylorMade has also changed the cosmetics significantly. Gone are the graphics on the crown. They have been replaced with a clean, black paint job on both the regular and TP models. The rest of the club is coated in a dark finish similar to last year’s SuperQuad.
The new Burner has already been well received on Tour. Charles Howell III, Justin Rose, and Sergio Garcia have already put the new driver into play. Expect to see the new Tour Burner hit retail shelves this spring.
