To get to Bernardus, most spectators will be taking bikes as long (as the weather cooperates). Car parking is banned at the matches – no Ubers or valet. Only shuttles and bikes. Organizers are estimating there could be over 5,000 bikes per day on the grounds.
What is the Solheim Cup format?
The Solheim Cup utilizes foursomes, fourball, and singles matches to determine its winner over three days. Here is a breakdown of each format from the LPGA.
Foursomes
Foursomes matches will be played on both Friday and Saturday morning. Foursomes, also known as alternate shot, is a form of play involving partners where two players compete as a side by playing one ball in alternating order on each hole. One point will be allocated to each team for a win, and a tie will result in each team earning a half point. No points are awarded for losses.
Fourball
Fourball matches will be played on Friday and Saturday afternoon. In fourball, two partners compete together as a side, with each player playing her own ball. A side’s score for a hole is the lower score of the two partners on that hole. The point structure is the same as foursomes, with a win earning one point and a tie earning a half point. No points are awarded for losses.
Singles
Sunday will see all 12 players from both the U.S. and European teams compete head-to-head in singles matches. The point structure remains the same as the first two days – one point for a win, a half point for a tie and no points for a loss.
