RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – Remember when Yani Tseng bumped up against superstition at last year’s Kraft Nabisco?
When Tseng stepped to the first tee before the final round and embraced the Dinah Shore Trophy standing there, a certain segment of folks who never walk under ladders shuddered. They consider it bad luck.
Turns out Tseng was just picking up on something that she got from Lorena Ochoa.
“I’ve touched trophies many times, because I know Lorena always did that,” Tseng said. “Lorena always goes and touches the trophy, always goes to see the trophy before she plays because she thinks that gives her very good luck. So I did that a couple times, trying to make it similar, like her, before winning a tournament, and it worked very well, but it just didn’t work last year. After that, I won’t touch a trophy again [on the first tee]. I will never look at it again.”
