Peter Jacobsen will have surgery to replace his left hip this Saturday, Jacobsen told the Champions Tour on Tuesday.

The 52-year-old Jacobsen doesn’t expect to compete in any more official events this year, but hopes to be on the course again by November.

Peter Jacobsen is set for his first Humana Challenge since 2005.

Jacobsen hasn’t competed in a PGA TOUR event since the 2009 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, where he missed the cut. He’s in the field this week due to an exemption afforded to past champions of the event, with the win taking place before 1999. In his case, the victory took place all the way back in 1990. While he’s made 24 of 27 cuts in this event, don’t expect this week to result in a 25th paycheck.

Jacobsen will join the Champions Tour next week for the SBC Classic in Valencia, California. He qualifies for the Tour on March 4, the day of his 50th birthday.

The PGA Tour’s Comeback Player of the Year in 2003 has 7 career wins on the PGA Tour, including last year’s Greater Hartford Open. The Champions Tour is excited about adding Jacobsen, who was always considered one of the more pleasant personalities on the PGA Tour during his 27 year career.
