After reaching the final stage of Q School in 2010 where he finished T114, the former PGA TOUR member has gone 1-for-9 on the Nationwide Tour this year. He also missed the cut in the U.S. Open. Tryon opened with a 79 at Stonebridge Ranch this week, but rebounded with rounds of 72, 66 and 69 to post 2-under 286 and survive on the number. Others celebrating this weekend include medalist Oscar Serna, who dusted the field by nine at 19-under 269; Tony Finau (284) and Brett Waldman (286). Among the notables that failed to advance include Jaxon Brigman (290) and Jay Haas, Jr. (294).

Tryon, now 25, hasn’t played in a PGA Tour event since losing his card in 2003. Ted Potter cruised to a four-shot victory at this site, with a 20-under 70-66-66-66=268. The one notable also advancing is 2008 PGA Tour member, Travis Perkins, who concluded this stage 67-69 to make the cut on the number. The primary notable that bowed out early is 2006 NCAA Champion, Jonathan Moore, who co-medaled in the first stage a year ago.

Of the 19 qualifiers, Tryon was one of seven to get through on the number. Billy Horschel and Garth Mulroy also finished at 282. Billy Hurley III and Scott Brown were co-medalists at 18-under 270. Other notables to survive: former PGA TOUR winner, Will MacKenzie (279), and former PGA TOUR members, David Branshaw (279) and Stephen Gangluff (282). Former first-team All Americans, Michael Thompson and Jonas Blixt, also advanced at 281. Notables that missed the cut include former PGA TOUR winners, Frank Lickliter II (287), Eric Axley (291), Daniel Chopra (292), Ted Tryba (293) and Carl Paulson (300; he still has a medical extension in the reshuffle category). Others falling short: former PGA TOUR members, Justin Bolli (283), Cliff Kresge (285), Travis Perkins (285), Bob Heintz (287), Matt Every (288), Jay Williamson (288), Kevin Johnson (288), Chris Wilson (288), Derek Fathauer (289), Bubba Dickerson (289) and Deane Pappas (293). Veteran member, Marco Dawson (283), also missed the cut.
