Padres signed 1B Kyle Martin to a minor league contract.
Martin was destroying everything in sight this season in the Mexican League, boasting a ridiculous .364/.480/.884 batting line with 18 home runs and 47 RBI through 39 games for los Guerreros de Oaxaca. The 29-year-old former fourth-round pick of the Phillies has never appeared above the Double-A level in MLB-affiliated ball. It’d be quite a story if he were to make the climb to San Diego’s big league roster.

Phillies 1B prospect Kyle Martin smashed a career-high four hits Saturday in a win for Low-A Lakewood.
He entered Saturday’s game in a 5-for-24 slump. The 22-year-old is now batting .376 with 20 RBI over his first 109 minor league at-bats. Saturday was Martin’s 11th multi-hit game of the year. Philadelphia selected Martin in the fourth round of the 2015 draft after he hit .350 with 14 HR and 11 SB during his senior year at the University of South Carolina.
