Pirates signed INF Alex Valdez to a minor league contract.
Valdez, 28, batted .359/.411/.597 with 19 home runs, 78 RBI and a 1.009 OPS last season in the Mexican League. He hasn’t enjoyed nearly as much success in previous minor league stints with the Red Sox, Nationals and Athletics. Look for him to serve as minor league depth.
