Castro, 31, had a 3.48 ERA and 91/37 K/BB ratio over 116 1/3 innings this past season with the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate. He has never pitched in the majors and will likely function as rotation insurance in the minors.

The move clears a spot for Eric O’Flaherty’s return from the disabled list. Castro didn’t make an appearance during his most recent stint with the team.

Castro got the boot to clear a roster spot for Sean Doolittle, who was activated from the disabled list in a corresponding move. Castro should get another shot soon.

The 32-year-old went 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in a four-game stint with the A’s earlier this season. He’s done a nice job at Nashville, limiting opponents to a .203 batting average in 20 innings. A roster spot opened up for Castro when Oakland placed Sean Doolittle (shoulder) back on the disabled list.

Castro posted a 3.79 ERA and 20/3 K/BB ratio over 19 innings for Nashville while splitting time between the rotation and bullpen. He’ll provide the much-maligned A’s bullpen with another option.

The 31-year-old right-hander will add additional depth to an already very deep and talented bullpen unit. He’s expected to report to Triple-A Sacramento.

Castro will serve as organizational depth this season for St. Louis after posting a decent 3.48 ERA with 91 strikeouts in 116 1/3 innings last summer for the Dodgers’ Triple-A club. The right-hander turned 31 years old this winter.

Castro was with the club just for one game as an extra arm in the bullpen. He will continue to provide bullpen depth at Triple-A and should get another chance with the big league club before the end of the summer.

The 32-year-old right-hander has appeared in three games with the big league club this season, posting a 3.00 ERA, 3.00 WHIP and 3/3 K/BB ratio over three innings. He’ll work in middle relief for the A’s.

Castro is now off the 40-man roster. The 32-year-old appeared in one game with the Athletics earlier this season and owns a 3.32 ERA over 35 relief appearances in Triple-A.
