The Brewers will pick one from a list of three players not on Atlanta’s 40-man roster to complete the Danny Kolb trade. Buddy Hernandez is one possibility.
Assuming he’s not taken in the Rule 5 draft, that is. That the PTBN isn’t on the 40-man roster indicates that Baseball America’s report of Dan Meyer being included in the deal is incorrect.

Buddy Hernandez struck out three in 1 2/3 scoreless innings yesterday for Zulia of the Venezuelan Winter League.
He has a 3.38 ERA in 13 1/3 IP. Hernandez is still awaiting his opportunity in the majors. He had a 2.42 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 67 innings for Triple-A Richmond last season, but that didn’t earn him a callup. It looks like he’ll be available in the Rule 5 draft again this year. The A’s picked him two years ago, but they didn’t keep him.

Athletics returned Rule 5 right-hander Buddy Hernandez to the Braves.
It’s rather surprising that Hernandez cleared waivers. Some team with a bullpen weaker than Oakland’s should have taken a chance on the 23-year-old reliever.

Braves reassigned RHP Buddy Hernandez, RHP Kevin Barry, RHP Matt Childers, RHP Zach Miner, C J.C. Boscan and OF John Barnes and OF Esix Snead to minor league camp.
All Hernandez has ever done is get outs, but his 0.93 spring ERA wasn’t good enough to beat out Adam Bernero and his 7.36 mark. He still might finally get his opportunity before season’s end.
