Marlins purchased the contract of INF/OF Ed Lucas from Triple-A New Orleans.
He’ll replace Nick Green on the active roster. Lucas, 31, owns a .278/.350/.399 batting line over parts of 10 seasons in the minors and is getting a long-awaited call-up to the majors. He is capable of playing all over the diamond and will serve in a utility role with Miami.

Placido Polanco (back) is not in Tuesday’s lineup against the Brewers.
Polanco is sitting after he left Monday’s game with lower back stiffness. Consider him day-to-day. Ed Lucas is filling in at third base Tuesday.
  • AZ 2nd Baseman
Ed Lucas went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in the Marlins’ loss to the Cardinals on Saturday.
Lucas had two of the Marlins’ 11 hits. The career minor leaguer is hitting .326 in 13 games with the Marlins this season, and Marlins manager Mike Redmond has been hitting him second in the lineup -- recently, ahead of Giancarlo Stanton -- in most of his starts.
  • MLB 1st Baseman #21
Logan Morrison (back) is not in the Marlins’ lineup Sunday.
Morrison hasn’t played since Tuesday due to lower back stiffness. The Marlins haven’t indicated that the DL might be a possibility, so consider LoMo day-to-day. Ed Lucas is starting at first base Sunday.
  • MIA Third Base Coach
Placido Polanco was scratched from Monday’s lineup due to illness.
He’s expected to return Tuesday. Ed Lucas is filling in at third base.
  • AZ 2nd Baseman
Ed Lucas ripped a go-ahead solo homer in the 10th inning of Wednesday’s win over the Phillies.
Lucas, who also had a single earlier in the game, took Cesar Jimenez deep over the left field fence. The career minor leaguer has received plenty of playing time for the Marlins this season but has hit only .250/.305/.334.
  • MLB 1st Baseman #21
Logan Morrison is not in the Marlins’ lineup Monday.
Morrison is batting just .231/.321/.328 since the All-Star break and .190/.277/.328 in September. Ed Lucas will start at first base against the visiting Phillies.
  • MLB 1st Baseman #21
Logan Morrison is out of Wednesday’s lineup against the Braves.
He’s presumably getting a day to rest his knee with the early start time. Ed Lucas will start at first base.
  • AZ 2nd Baseman
Ed Lucas went 0-for-4 on Monday, leaving him with a .202 average and a 23/4 K/BB ratio in 84 at-bats since the All-Star break.
Lucas has started 21 of the last 22 games anyway. He’s mostly playing third base, but he’s also getting starts at first when Logan Morrison sits. It’s a nice story that he’s in the majors -- the 31-year-old Dartmouth product was a career minor leaguer until the Marlins called him up at the end of May -- but he’s getting way too much playing time right now.

    Mariners released INF Ed Lucas.
Lucas was batting .224/.259/.396 in 143 plate appearances this season at Triple-A Tacoma. He turns 34 years old on Saturday and could struggle to find a new opportunity in MLB-affiliated ball.
