Rangers sent RHP Jason Grilli and C Kevin Richardson outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Grilli had a 4.78 ERA in 26 1/3 innings after being picked up on waivers from the Rockies in June. He’ll become a free agent and likely receive a whole bunch of minor league offers.
  • Rangers designated C Kevin Richardson for assignment.
Richardson makes way for newly acquired Ivan Rodriguez.
  • Rangers purchased the contract of catcher Kevin Richardson from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
He will be the team’s third catcher behind Taylor Teagarden and Ivan Rodriguez. The 28-year-old Richardson was 2-for-4 in his only appearance with the Rangers on August 17.
  • Rangers purchased the contract of catcher Kevin Richardson from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
With Jarrod Saltalamacchia hitting the disabled list, the Rangers needed some catching depth. The club is actively seeking backstop help from outside the organization, but until they land another player, Richardson should see a decent amount of playing time. He was batting .223 with 12 home runs and 34 RBI in 229 at-bats with the Oklahoma City RedHawks.
  • Rangers sent catcher Kevin Richardson outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Richardson was designated for assignment a few days ago to clear roster space for Ivan Rodriguez. He’ll return to a .223 batting average, 12 home runs and 34 RBI through 229 at-bats with the Oklahoma City RedHawks.
  • Rangers re-signed C Kevin Richardson to a minor league contract.
The minor league deal comes with an invitation to spring training. Richardson, 29, was outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City and removed from the 40-man roster just a few weeks ago. He was 2-for-4 in his only appearance with the Rangers on August 17 and has just six total major league at-bats under his belt.
