Ken Rosenthal reports that the Rangers are close to signing Andrew Cashner. MLB.com’s T.R. Sullivan says it’s a one-year, $10 million contract, though nothing has been announced officially.

Cashner, who pitched for the Padres and Marlins last year, throws hard and has had flashes of promise but he’s coming off a year in which he posted a 5.25 ERA in 132 innings.

$10 million is actually a bargain for a starting pitcher these days. It’s hard to see how a switch to the American League and Globe Life Park will help Cashner, however.
