Bobby Abreu was released by the Angels in late April and then designated for assignment and demoted to Triple-A by the Dodgers on August 1, but the veteran outfielder is back in the majors.

As part of rosters expanding on September 1 the Dodgers have recalled Abreu from Triple-A, where the 38-year-old went 6-for-17 (.353) in his first minor league action since 1997.

He’ll be used as a bat off the bench, which is likely the best fit for Abreu’s diminished but still useful skill set at this point. In a total of 237 plate appearances between the Angels and Dodgers he got on base at a .346 clip and drew 32 walks to provide value despite a low batting average and little power.
