J.J. Hardy is out of tonight’s lineup against the Blue Jays after leaving Thursday’s game with discomfort in the upper part of his left ankle, reports Avi Zaleon of MLB.com.

Hardy is officially listed as day-to-day right now, though he is expected to go for a precautionary MRI. The good news is that Orioles manager Buck Showalter said there is no swelling in the ankle and that Hardy feels like “nothing ever happened.”

Hardy, who signed a three-year, $22.25 million contract extension with the Orioles last month, is batting .265/.313/.495 with 19 home runs, 48 RBI and an .809 OPS over 352 plate appearances this season. Only Troy Tulowitzki has more home runs among major league shortstops.
