Jean Segura was hit in the head by a Pedro Strop fastball

Brewers shortstop Jean Segura suffered a scare in the eighth inning of Sunday afternoon’s game against the Cubs when he was hit in the head by a Pedro Strop fastball. The game was tied at 3-3 and the Brewers had runners on first and third with no outs, so Segura was trying to bunt to put an additional runner in scoring position. Strop threw an 0-1 fastball which went too far in on Segura, hitting him in the helmet.

Segura was down for a while, and was tended to by the Brewers’ team trainer, but was able to stand up and take his place at first base. However, for obvious reasons, Segura was taken out of the game for a pinch-runner, Hector Gomez.

After the game, Segura said he felt “pretty good”, per’s Adam McCalvy. Segura will go through the usual concussion protocol and will probably miss a game or two. If he passes all the tests, he will likely avoid going on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

The Brewers went on to win 5-3, securing their first series win and their first winning streak of the season, having won back-to-back games against the Cubs.
