The Yankees have announced that Masahiro Tanaka will return to the Yankees’ rotation Wednesday against the Red Sox.
Tanaka missed his previous start due to a hamstring strain. After a couple of bullpen sessions over the weekend went off without discomfort or issue he was given the OK.
Tanaka has a 3.38 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 136/26 K/BB ratio in 149 innings this season for the Yankees. His start Wednesday will be his last of the year, although he could theoretically pitch on short rest on the season’s last day if the Yankees somehow haven’t clinched the wild card by then and are playing for their lives. Barring that, he would be available for the wild card game next week.
