Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the Red Sox have signed pitcher Rich Hill to a minor league contract. He’ll report to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Hill, 35, signed a minor league deal with the Nationals at the end of February, but he struggled with his control at Triple-A Syracuse and was released in June. He signed with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League and pitched five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and one walk.

Hill has spent parts of 10 seasons in the majors, including last year with the Angels and Yankees. But control problems limited his effectiveness, as he compiled a 4.72 ERA with a 451/227 K/BB ratio in 471 innings in the big leagues. The Red Sox will likely use him out of the bullpen when rosters expand in September.
