Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports that the Red Sox will call up prospect outfielder Andrew Benintendi today.

Benintendi, the Sox 2015 first round pick, will make the jump from Double-A, where he has hit .295/.357/.515 with eight homers and 44 RBI in 66 games. Across High-A and Double-A he has hit .312/.378/.532 with nine homers, 76 RBI, and 16 steals over 97 games. He just turned 22. He’s a center fielder. He bats left handed so, Drellich notes, he’ll likely not get his first start until Wednesday since the Mariners are throwing a lefty at Boston in tonight’s game. Going forward he’ll platoon in left with Bryce Brentz.

The Sox were looking at potential upgrades at the deadline. But why trade when you got exactly what you need in the system? At least on paper. How Benintendi does on the field will be a lot of fun to watch.
