In need of some Triple-A depth, the Reds acquired former big leaguer Mark Teahen from the Diamondbacks for cash or a player to to be named later.
Teahen was a regular for the Royals from 2005-2009 and signed a three-year, $14 million deal after being traded the White Sox, only to get dumped on the Blue Jays and then released last winter. He’s bounced around since, didn’t play in the big leagues at all last season, and has struggled at Triple-A recently, so even though he’s still just 31 years old Teahen is little more than a name at this point.
Once upon a time Teahen hit .287 with an .809 OPS in 253 games between 2006 and 2007, which was pretty promising for a 25-year-old former first-round pick, but he’s played just 448 games with a .705 OPS since.
