Report: Ben Zobrist scheduled to meet with Giants
Fresh off signing right-hander Jeff Samardzija to a five-year, $90 million contract, the Giants remain active in the free agent market as they attempt to land another pitcher and a bat. With that in mind, FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal hears that Ben Zobrist is scheduled to meet with the club and that the versatile free agent “remains high” on their priority list.
Zobrist is a bit of an interesting fit for the Giants, who already have their infield in place with Joe Panik at second base, Brandon Crawford at shortstop, and Matt Duffy at third. He’d likely get most of his playing time in left field, but he’d also be insurance for Panik, who has had some back issues. Free agents like Alex Gordon, Justin Upton, and Yoenis Cespedes probably make more sense for them on paper, though they will be pricier.
Zobrist just visited the Mets on Wednesday and has also been connected to the Nationals and Dodgers. He’s said to be looking for a four-year deal in the range of $60 million.
