The Mets may play some games in Puerto Rico

The Daily News reports that Major League Baseball wants to return regular season baseball to Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2010, and that, due to the presence of multiple Puerto Ricans on their roster, they want the Mets to be one of the participants. The visiting team, of course, because they’d never take home games away from cash cow Citi Field. They would take them away from that dead stadium walking down in Miami, however, so it will probably be the Marlins that call Hiram Bithorn “home.”

Hiram Bithorn, you’ll recall, was home to the Expos for a number of games back in 2003-04. It quickly gained a reputation as a bandbox due to its 360 foot power alleys, which is anywhere from 25 to 45 feet shorter those in Citi Field. So obviously this is a plot to jack David Wright’s home run numbers back up.
