    Peter Moylan has announced his retirement after 12 major league seasons.
    The 40-year-old spent nine of his 12 seasons with Atlanta while also enduring brief stints with the Dodgers and Royals. Though his big-league career is now over, Moylan plans to continue pitching in Italy and also hopes to represent his native Australia in the upcoming Olympics. The right-hander pitched to a 3.10 ERA across 418 2/3 major league innings. Each of his 499 appearances came in relief.

    Moylan was sidelined by a right forearm strain in the second half of the 2018 season and turned 40 years old in December, but it’s possible he’ll be able to find a non-guaranteed minor league deal and MLB camp invite once the back end of the free agent relief market settles.     Though no firm timetable has been set, Peter Moylan (shoulder) indicated to David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Sunday that a return sometime after mid-May would be reasonable.
    Moylan, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right rotator cuff in early October but recently ramped up his throwing to three sets of 25 throws from a distance of 90 feet. The side-arming reliever re-upped with the Braves last month on a minor league deal full of incentives and could be a factor in their pen if he shows he’s healthy.

According to David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the 33-year-old Aussie would make a $1 million prorated salary for time spent in the majors, plus additional incentives.

    Moylan is currently working his way back from arthroscopic surgery on his right rotator cuff in October. The 33-year-old was non-tendered by the Braves in December, but signed a minor league deal with the club last month. We’ll know a lot more about his progress once he throws from a mound, but the hope is that he’ll be able to contribute out of the bullpen prior to the All-Star break.
